I'm sure they'll find a solution to that soon, afterall lithium batteries are used to power various other devices and not just for rc.....

A local FM channel reported today morning that the Ill fated UPS cargo plane crashed in Dubai few weeks back was due to a Lipo Battery fire. The thick smoke and fire generated point fingers to the typical Lipo fire/explosion. Not a promising discovery at all for the RC world. This may bring more restriction to the shipment of Lipo batteries. HC is already restricting the number of pieces per order. The investigation revealed that the thick smoke in the cockpit made it impossible for the pilots to see the runway or the instrument panels. Sad

Since I have been in this hobby, there have been posts throughout India related to ban on LiPo transport and stuff.

I would like to put my point forward. Li-xx is not only used in RC, but in Laptops, Mobiles and now even in Solar Powered Vehicles. There can not be a ban on Li-xx battery transport, be it through AIR, SEA OR SURFACE.

All the mishaps in the past have been due to faulty manufacture of batteries. The worst outcome of a mishap due to a Li-xx Battery accident is the BAN on the Manufucturer or restrictions on the transport.

I have not come accross any article or report which says "FINALLY" BAN ON LI-XX BATTERY TRANSPORT...

Now, in India, 90% of the people order through HobbyKing or HobbyCity, whatever you call it. There is no BAN on the LiPo battery courier. There have been restrictions. Any parcel containing LiPos with a total capacity more than 3000Mah, will be sent through Swiss Post. That is the only restriction. As far as any LHS are concerned, they will say that the situation will worsen with HK. Please do not listen to them. Have a talk with the companies directly, they know more about the situation as compared to the LHS...

Please order your batteries or whatever you want to order and do not spread all these posts throughout the Forums unless you face a problem PERSONALLY...

I REQUEST ALL OF THE MEMBERS TO PLEASE STOP ALL THE POSTS RELATED TO LIPO BAN OR ANYTHING... UNLESS THERE IS AN ACTUAL RULING ON THE BAN...

Very well said Anam Bhai. I have been ordering lipos from HK for a long time now. Never had any problem. Also the restriction is above 4500mah or 1.85Kg weight ( over this they use swiss post). Have u checked the price of LIPOS with LHS? Its ridiculously high even after adding postal & custom charges almost 4 times the HK price. All the posts about lipo ban or whatever might be a desperate attempt to lure customers into buying from them.

Yes, that can be... and at HK, I was talking about the new restriction, if the total LiPo capacity is more than 3000mah, it will be shipped through Swiss Post. This is the most recent update I am talking about. Whatever the restriction might be, there will be no problem in ordering battery, be it any battery, on any website...

I am not sure which side (or who) is making this a commercial issue now. All the recent posts are meant to show that there could be SOME restrictions on lithium battery (not just lip) shipment in the near future,

i just checked  & ordered some batteries and here is the update:-

Shipping Li-Poly batteries by Air Parcel
Due to air safety regulations, parcels with a total battery capacity of more than 4500mAh cannot be sent via 'Air Parcel'.
Please select Air Mail, EMS Express, UPS, DPD, or DHL where available.

You can reduce the lipo capacity ordered, or order from one of HobbyKings US, EU or AU warehouses without limitation.

Options.
1) Order via EMS Express, UPS, DPD, Air Mail or DHL if available.
2) Reduce total battery capacity to under 4500mAh.
3) Order from Hobbyking.com DE, US or AU warehouse if available.

There is no commercial issue Anwar. I am just against these post related to MIGHT BE A BAN ON LIPO IMPORT or something.

This is actually leaving a bad impact on some of the RC people. I have come accross these people myself.

Please post these threads if anyone of you have a proof or strong point that THERE IS A BAN...

No body on this thread so far has mentioned "ban".  The discussion is only around "restrictions", some of which are already in place (like in the above post), and more are certainly to come (at least from the US side).  And this will affect all electronics that depend on lithium cells.

this is for american airlines but i think most airlines will practise this.

This restriction is only limited to the passanger planes. the lipos which are sent out in our orders are sent out in cargo planes. the difference being that they do not have much passangers apart from the crew.

At present, no matter how many restrictions are imposed in Li-xx batteries, they are the present and future to the battery world, you will not face any major problems in getting the batteries from any of the websites...

The whole point is that restrictions are coming on cargo flights too, based on the recent events.  And restrictions do not imply unavailability.

This is the message you get if you order Li XX battery more than 4500 mah in total form Hobby King: And I dont think sharing such information in a form will bring any added restriction. Like Anwar Gi pointed out "restrictions are coming on cargo flights too".

I have heard on rc model reviews that Hongkong post have cracked down the airmailing of lipo and lithum battries. HobbyKing has advised customers "to avoid ordering large Lipoly battery (above 2200mAh) for the next 14 days". Is this true ? Then what about the r/c fliers who depend upon these battries?
