Title: HELP with Lipo. Broken Balance Plug.
Post by: ariyano on September 16, 2018, 09:47:02 AM
Hey guys,

I have a 2200mah 3s which had its balance port broken off. So I hooked up a Molex connector on the battery side and a balanced jack on the other side. Please see attached pics.
Now when I connect the battery to charge, I get an error on the charger that there is a connection problem. I've tried changing the pins but to no avail.
In this process, I have also shorted out a B3 charger.

Can anyone please see the pics and let me know if there is something wrong with the connection.

I'm guessing one of the cells has gone bad, if that's the case, how can I rule that out?

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
Aj.

what i see is that you have connected yellow ( which should be Pin 1)  to red wire from Battery ( that is supposed to go to pin 4).

see image for clarity.

Thank you for your reply, appreciate it.
I should have been more clear in my initial post.
Cause i pulled out the balance plug from something. The color codes do not represent actual colors. So according to your image my V+ is Yellow and V- is Red, and the other two black wires connected accordingly.
If i hook up the battery to the charger in this pin scheme, my charger blinks both Red & Green, which according to the charger means incorrect battery connection. I saw a video on YouTube and the guy said if both the lights blink, my battery is toast.
But strangely non of my cells are puffed.

Irrespective of the color ... you connect in the order i have marked in picture.

Red wire on the battery should be the fourth pin. See Pic.

Tip --> If you haven't shorted , seen smoke , fire , heat from battery then battery is all OK.

You know when you go to the doctor you don't have the problem anymore. This is such a case. I've been banging my head with this since couple of days. And I saw this pin scheme before as well. But nothing worked. But now that you replied. I re did the wiring and guess what. It started charging right away. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH.
But while doing all this, i did short a B3 charger.

I charged the battery to full. Now my cell read 4.17 + 4.17 & 4.19 totalling to 12.53v. Is this correct? I believe they should be 4.2 each.

There is a option of balance charging that tries to charge to 4.2 volts.

Otherwise also it's good to go.

Thank you. I don't have that kind of a charger where i can selectively charge. I need to buy one of those.

Would you know the best size prop for a 1800kv motor running on 3s? I was planning on 1045.

Thank you for your assistance.

A 7*5 prop would be good. a 1045 is too big mate. dont use  it..max 8 inches for `1800kv

I agree with Imperial fire.

7x4 or 8x4 at the max .

That's great. Thank you for your inputs both of you.
If there a rule of thumb for prop sizes?

Higher the kV smaller the prop.

For details consult the motor datasheet
