hellow all
i am trying to charge my 8 cell nicd battery (1000 mah 10.1v ), as my charger is not working now , can i use nokia cell phone charger 500 ma 5v out , i have many charges of same rate can i connect 3 chargers in series to get  approx v greater than battery , i also tried to charge it with smps 12v out put fot 3 hours as i dont know what is the amp out put of smps, but doesnt work as battery just finished in 5 minutes, is my battery is dead or what , give some suggestion people.......................

just tried with printer adapter 15v 500 amp out , battery and charger become hot in 5 minutes oooooooooooooooooooo

You want a fire in your house ? you never ever charge Nicd/Nimh directly connection to the power source. There is always a current limiting Resistor in series. Either use a published circuit from new or buy a new charger. These Chinese ones cost less then Rs 100.
