Multiple people I know use it.  It is a good idea, especially if your charging surface is fire prone (carpets, next to curtains etc).

I do my charging (most of the time) inside an old Trex 450 metal carry case with all foam padding inside removed Wink

+1.
Its $5 HC/ Rs 400 at Rcforall and it does worth that much of money, especially after looking at those horrific fire blasts caused by Lipos.

One more idea. I saw these dry mini Fire extinguishers  (like Cease Fire, if you remember) at Car accessory shop, selling at just Rs 160. I am also planning to buy one of these as they may double up in case of some (unlikely) incident.

I got a lipo bag, but never used it to charge the Lipos, I always balance charge 2X3s Lipo using a splitter and battery are always cold even at 1C Charge. So at home I may not use it. But its always good to have one around if you know you are charging a slightly puffed cell, or not balance charging or charging on a car Engine beside the battery, like many people I see at jakkur.

EDIT: Got it from HC and the build quality is so good that even if 2 lipos explode, it can hold. Get the smaller one and it should suffice.

An even better reason to learn not to be careless.  And this includes other aspects of aeromodelling too.

On a personal level, I have NEVER had a LiPo getting heated up - to even a moderately uncomfortable level - while charging.

Accidents like these don't "happen". They are caused.

Though i am not too much in electrics, but my 220mah 3S heli batteries do not even warm up when i charge them with 1C current (2.2 A ) . At the end of a 1 hour charge, they remain as cold as they were when starting out.

These bags are are just like car's seat belts and helmets. Hassle when you put on everyday, you only marvel their purpose when they save you from evident tragedy.

Folks!! Revolution in battery technology was stalled for decades, and only in the last 5-10 years  that bulk of innovation has happened (fueled by Gas prices, may be!) . LiPo technology is very demanding (due to high discharge challenge) and not very standardized. There are many unknown ans surprises till date.

Even though things look cool, do get a bag esp when you are in other room while they are charged (if not away from home altogether).  These should be a MUST while charging the lucid 40C one at 4-5C. Lithium, unlike materials in Lead Acid, NiCd , Dry is a highly inflammable substance. Lithium when used with stabilizers like in those in LiIon cell are much more stable than when used with Polymers to give hight discharge rates in our LiPos. Afterall these bags are a Rs 400/$6 peace of mind.

If you have a automatic charger, then the charger will automatically switch off the charging process, Otherwise it is not recommended to use ordinary charger for Lipos.

well i don't have a automatic charger yet and i m not charging lipo with it but using a normal adapter to charge 3.7v 1800 mah li-ion batteries and they charge perfectly
i also charge 6v 700 mah 4*'aa'size battery pack and lead acid batteries with it[4v]
[if any one wants to know/buy the li-ion 3.7 v/1800 mah battery or the lead acid accumulator 4 v battery please pm me]

Learning to Fly

Since I am new to electric and have heard some scary stories about the way lipos behave, I have bought one of these charge bags. I not only use them during charge cycle, but it also keep the LiPo when storing.
