Title: Lipo problem
Post by: Darshan for multirotors on March 22, 2015, 02:15:50 PM
I just got a 1500mah lipo battery for my Tricopter. I connected it to the esc's and a spark came out. A liquidy substance came out from the battery ( I think ) and the cover tore off and the 3 batteries inside were visible. I connected them again but it didn't power up. So I charged it and tried again but still the same problem. Is my battery damaged or can it work again????  ??? ??? ??? :help:

Please post an image of the connector on the ESC (clearly showing the wires of the ESC connected to it).
Also double check the Polarity of the connections that you have made from all 3 ESC's to the battery.

check the esc terminals with a multimeter for a possible short circuit that might have occurred while soldering the connectors.

all your connectors seems close together, and the motor leads are uninsulated, causing more chances for a short circuit.
the battery have undergone serious damage due to the short circuit, check each cell separately. and before testing another battery, make sure all connectors are perfectly insulated.

I don't have heat shrink.. Can I use electrical tape as insulator?

And how will I check each cell?

Electrical tape will work (heat shrink is recomended) . You can check each cell with a lipo checker , but write this battery off (it will only cause more problems) .

you can check each cell with a multimeter in voltage range , you can access individual cell terminals through the balance lead in LiPo .

Please DO NOT USE THAT DAMAGED LIPO

You may not believe it yet, but it is too dangerous.
