No doubt this topic has been discussed before and there are many fliers (pun intended) out there who travel with lipo batteries and their crafts via flight, can some one guide me on how to go about it on domestic flights? Would appreciate any tips on how to carry my lipo battery/batteries from people who have done so, reading around i found mixed opinions, some say check-in baggage and some say cabin-baggage so am confused.

I recently took my TBS Discovery and 3 lipos, from Kolkata to goa for vacation. I was stopped and my suitcase was checked. They had a good look at the lipos but in the end passed everything. I had the lipos in my carry on luggage, but they told me to put the lipos in check in luggage instead.
As far as I know lipos should be carried on your person so you can keep an eye on the lipos, but the airport authorities didn't seem to think so.

I think just packing the lipo  in the lipo bag should be enough but to be on the safer side I think you should put in the lipo bag and then in some bag so that no harm is caused to the battery
Sir Please ensure that nothing pointed is kept near it

I too was wondering whether they would allow Lipos and quads on the flight. But I am worried about their erratic behaviour. What if they prevent carrying the Lipo at the last moment. Abandoning costly batteries at the airport is not an option. Did they ask you what these batteries are meant for? I would like to hear from others if they had been allowed to board with LiPo batteries, be it in the checked in baggage or in the carry in luggage. I too need to take my quad to Goa next time I go there Smiley

And what about the quads? Did they raise any objection about it? Did you have to carry it in the checked in baggage too?

The point of carrying lipo in the cabin baggage is advised by the users (we), but for the flight ops and authorities it looks like a WMD Giggle No wonder they ask us to put it in the cargo-bay luggage. Either ways, containing the lipo's inside a hard shell [to avoid physical damages during (mis)handling by the airlines] + a lipo safe bag should keep the anticipated issues at bay.

Hi All,

Im put up in Bangalore and I work abroad. I keep travelling once every 3 months. I've been carrying Lipos on all my journeys & have had no problems at all.
I recommend transporting lipos within the lipo carry case (fire proof) only in your luggage and not your hand baggage & with adequate cushioning around it. The reason for this.... poor handling of baggage at the airports.

Cheers,
Sree!

I have carried Lipo both in international and Domestic flights.

What i observed is most of the time they pay attention to security rather than safety.
As we hobbyist think about caring our expensive lipos in safe way, but for them it looks like abnormal and will lead to further explanation and when they notice the term "battery", it ends with purpose and there you cant explain them as most of the lipos have cables projected out and they think in extreme level.

So as my experience i too suggest like other people said just make sure well packed, kept in fire proof wrap, discharged to storage voltage and pamper it. you will not face any trouble hopefully.

Thanks and regards.
