Hi guys , I have bought a new lipo , 5200 mah 10 c rating = 52 amps discharge . I know how to charge a battery ( 5.2 x 1 = 5200 mah max charge rate for this one ) , but my IMAX only allows till 5 amps and it's adapter has a max output of 4 amps .

So my question is can I charge this battery at 5000 mah without worrying about the adaptor or should I charge it at some other rate ( pls suggest the rate ) .

Hmm, Many essential details are missing in your question.

Based on the Charging C Rating a LiPo, the Maximum Amps you can charge it as varies.
So if the Charge rate on this LiPo is 1 C then you can charge it at a max Amperage of 5.2 Amps
If the Charge rate on this LiPo is 5 C then you can charge it at a max Amperage of 5.2 x 5 = 26 Amps

"but my IMAX only allows till 5000 amps"
I hope you mean 5000mah here  Wink

Chargers are best discussed in Watts which is Volts x Amps
I believe you are referring to Imax B6 which is a 50 Watt charger.
So the max Power at which it can charge a LiPo would be 50 Watts.

If in case the LiPo in question is a 3 Cell one then At 1C, you would need about 12.6 x 5.2 = 65.52 watts which your Charger setup is unable to deliver.
Apart from that if adapter in question is 4 Amps @ 12 volts then it can only deliver 48 Watts.

So basically you only have 48 Watts in hand which you can use to charge a 3Cell 5200 Mah LiPo at max 4 Amps.

Edited . Thanks for mentioning . So basically I should at max set it at 3.9 amps , leaving 100 mah for other operations ?

Thanks . Another question what will happen if I consume more amps than the adapter can provide , will it cut the power or burst ?

Depends on the kind of adapter that you have.
If it's a reliable one then most likely it will be able to deliver a bit higher than rated. Although it's not recommended to push them above their specification since prolonged usage at higher ratings may result in the adapter getting damaged/Fire, etc.
I have seen many local adapter not even able to deliver even half of the rated specifications. Either they won't be able to deliver full rated amps. If they do, the voltage will sag.

Hmm, since the adapter that you have is reliable and if the need is urgent then why not give it a try?
If in case this setup fails, you would see the first signs in form of charger resetting automatically, etc
Fire shouldn't be the first thing to happen.

Try it, if you find the adapter to be getting too hot then retreat to the specifications.

BTW, you still haven't confirmed if that LiPo that you have is 3Cell or 4Cell ?
The Amps ratings that you can use for a 4 Cell will be lower than that of 3 cell.

This one is is 4Amps at 15Volts which is able to provide full power to the charger.
You can use the full capacity (50 Watts) from the charger from this setup.

Buying something original and getting through the fuss of importing it actually pays off .

In general, most of the customers prefer price over quality here in India.

BTW, we do keep reliable adapters:
http://www.ebay.in/itm/12V-5Amp-DC-Power-Supply-Adapter-for-LiPo-Chargers-High-Quality-Imported-/201128525989?pt=IN_Toys_Games_School_Stuff&hash=item2ed431c0a5&_uhb=1

Under test conditions we found it to be delivering about 7.5 amps with absolutely no voltage lag.
