Title: Turnigy accucel 6 not powering up
Post by: aviator on January 29, 2012, 03:09:38 PM
Hi,

It may sound naive but the Turnigy accucel 6 charger i just recieved from a Hooby shop is not powering up.
I am using a AC/ DC wall adapter(SMPS Switching mode universal regulated adapter)  that reads :
Input - AC 100-240V - 50/60 HZ 0.3 A
Output - 12V - 2A
Putting the plug in the input port but nothing comes up - No LCD, no sound nothing...
What can be the issue??
Help pls.

Hi
Your not using the right power supply for your charger thats why its not powering up . check the power ratings of both....

Oops.... but 12V 2A should work? Shouldn't it? Or is it that the wattage is not correct???

Amperage comes into picture once you load the device(SMPS adpter)

Things that may be checked:
1)Polarity
2)Voltage of the supply ; Since you are using a SMPS based rectifier which are known for steep voltage drop if the load is current hungry (low resistance loading) tries to get more than rated current, in your case 2A.So please check the voltage when it is connected to the charger.

Or try it using a 12V lead acid battery (Car, motorcycle, Inverters )

Can i use this for my accecel :

http://www.ebay.in/itm/Universal-Laptop-Notebook-Power-Adaptor-Charger-Adapter-/180804035652?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item2a18c2a444#ht_2186wt_905

M worried coz the wattage is around 90W? Is it too much?????

Supply does NOT decide the wattage, load DOES.Power rating of a supply is the MAXIMUM it could deliver.
Supply gives the voltage and load takes the current according to its impedance. So the supply you have posted a link of should be just fine.

Could be a polarity problem. Do check the polarity of the SMPS plug with a DMM and see if it matches that of the charger.

Matched the pin sizes....

Pin size of accucel 6:
OD: 5.47MM ID: 2.52mm LEN: 11.5mm
Pin Sizes of adapter on ebay :

I think it matches..

@Aviator is there any progress.... IF the polarity is reversed your circuit would be smoking be careful .....
Now your Charger is rated as
Input Voltage: 11~17v
Circuit power: Max Charge: 50W / Max Discharge: 5W
Charge Current Range: .1~6.0A

So use the power source which has the output voltage between 11V to 17V
and the out power no more than 50W, To be on safer side keep it below 50W.

For example you could use an adapter that has out of 15V 5A and hence 45W that is Power = VI watts

@broken prop
Your watt prediction thing is actually messed up.
You can use a 12V 5000KW(or KWh in case of battery) Adapter to power up a circuit which is rated at 12V 2ma .And i am pretty sure about that. The only thing matters is voltage rating of supply not power rating(it should be more than required that's all).

Try using the car battery.

@ Sorav - Car battery is working gud.
Seems to be a prob in the ac dc adapter

@santoshC  So is your's.....
"12V 5000KW" ... which is nothing but 5 Mega Watts power!!!!!! and 12V 2mA wont even light up the lcd back light.

Sorry my bad.....
I guess i need to brush my Electronics Knowledge .......

@ Brocken prop - I think santosh wants to clear up that KW depends on load and the same can be used for any AMP ratings.
I think he is pointing at 'V' to be same....
Point taken!
Alas!! M an engineer by choice but a sales guy by chance!
