Title: Uneven individual cell charge - LiFe battery
Post by: niteenk on October 04, 2015, 09:53:59 AM
Hi, All

I have LiFe 1500mah battery 1C using for my FlySky th9 radio. recently I figured out that one of battery cell is fully charged while other 2 cells are not. details are as below

Total battery voltage: 10.3
Cell 1 : 3.34
Cell 2 : 3.53
Cell 3 : 3.37

Now the reading on Accucel 6 are different is shows cell 2 is fully charged to 3.6  ???

does this mean battery is damaged or is there any way I can rectify this? I always used balanced charging for this battery.

I don't know why this happens but it is the same with me. Even when my HobbyKing LiFe pack was brand new, cell 2 used to charge up much faster than the others. I filed an RMA request and was going to get a replacement when I realised that it doesn't seem to be much of a problem. When I start using the pack, all 3 cells drop to 3.3V and stay there until the battery runs low. I charge it with an IMAX B6 o balance mode (set to LiFe)l

So should i wait till each cell discharge  to 3.3v or plug to accucel and discharge it to 9.9v ?

When you apply a load to a LiFe battery each cell drops to 3.3V pretty quickly. Just use your transmitter for a couple of minutes and check the cells with a LiPo voltage checker. The cells will stay around 3.3V until the battery is low on charge and then they will start dropping.. You can charge the battery again then.
