Title: [HELP/GUIDE] Building a model weighting 500g..!
Post by: DArkPrince007 on October 07, 2013, 10:19:43 AM
Hello everyone, as a beginner I'm planning to make a plane whose total weight should be weighting less than 500g + PAYLOAD ( planning for IIT sp4mm3r 2014)

Please suggest me some good plans if any for the same or some idea and suggestions which material to use if making my own plan using thumb rules do designing a plane.

With the building, comes great role of electronics as weight constraint is there please suggest me some good electronics I.e
1. Motor
2. Esc
3. Prop
4. Battery
I have fly sky 6 ch RC .

As the rules from IIT contains the criteria of PAYLOAD which means apart from 500g plane weight I will have to add extra weight depending upon the thrust of motor. Accordingly please suggest me electronics and some building guide...

THANK YOU.!

are you allowed to hand launch or must it take off from the ground under its own power ??

if it's a heavy lift, I would advise you to use a dt750 with a large prop... put a 1500-2200 lipo, with a 20-25a etc... make the wings long.. broad at the shoulders, tapering at the tips, use a polyhedral setup... make a payload Bay at the cg point of the craft.

seniors any comments?

If i understand correctly, you want a plane with AUW of less than 500 gm and then you want this plane to carry extra payload. Right?

@aniket, I would not agree on the choice of mAH for the battery. For one, the condition is to Lift and not Endure. So even a 2 min flight would do. In that case a 1000mAh 25C would be able to drive 20amp esc

@darkprince, you can checkout my posts for self designed foam trainers... you can adjust the size to bring the weight down further...

@Darkprince,
For the powered glider build, look at the buildlog for wing construction. There is an image that should be self explainatory. Otherwise ask.
For the pusher, it was a UC wing. What I did was to take the flat biofoam sheets as per dimension and then gently press with both hands against a round surface - i did it against the staircase railing. Please not that only the half of wing from the LE needs to subjected to this method. Then to maintain shape, i used half ribs a regular intervals. UC wings make excellent floaters, but do not respond well to aileron, so make them 3 chanel only.  If you prefer, hookup rudder to aileron channel.

As started making plane . Having doubts on control surface ! What should the minimum angle of control surfaces for turning and elevating .??? Is there any calculation ? Minimum up and Down so that plane can turn and elevate .?

And I agree with pankaj.....you could use a 850mah or under 1000mah lipo...they will help maintain your model weight ...higher mah have higher weight... A 850mah lipo weighs only 80g
