Don't wake a Tiger until you've factored the teeth

I got this PM

Hello sir I am new in Rc and I am planning to make j3 cub  I saw that you have j3cub model in your upload image so I have emax gt2218 motor 1100kv 80g and can you give me the measurements of your plane and specifications of your plane so I can built it my WhatsApp number is ********  I search on Google for plane dimensions there are no  they are with scale and I can't understand that scale so can you help me

My Reply

If you are new in RC, don't make a Piper Cub! It is not an easy model to fly

In fact, for any newcomer, I do not recommend building immediately. There are many, many factors to consider, many of which only come with experience

The best way of getting into RC Flying with a high degree of success is find a group of flyers, get a ready made trainer (Easystar, Sky Surfer) and take help from someone experienced

I have seen many people plunging headlong into building first, and then getting discouraged and dropping the hobby. And that is a shame, because this hobby will give you a lifetime of happiness! There is plenty of time to build and fly your own creations, which indeed is a great pleasure, but after you get some experience

Good Luck

Keep calm and fly safe.

Maybe if they really have no choice and ' must build' ....coz of whatever reason
There is this airplane called the axon (by experimental airplanes on YouTube)..
Good way to start and extremely easy to make...
Just stick to pushers in the beginning... Crashes are extremely discouraging,...
So much so....a friend of mine crashed his sky surfer ...and doesn't wanna fly it again..😂😂..

P.s beginners please give your wing a decent angle of attack...will save some frustration..

I'm sorry, but I don't agree

Paramount is finding a group. If just not available, always better to start with aproven factory built. Most beginners will even struggle to assemble an ARF correctly

The moment a rank beginner starts to worry about AoA he is likely to err. There are a few hundred things that can go wrong, and only one is needed for a crash!

I think Its not correct  to make this so scary.....
Its OKAY if they crash a pusher...they can read a little online about mistakes made,...they can improve....they can learn....they don't have to buy a new one....
A friend of mine in nashik ., abhishek, learnt to make airplanes in class 10_ using thermocol and coro sheets...he had his own building techniques.. And own designs...
No help from internet ...
He also won some Boeing aeromodelling thing 2 years ago I think...
And now that he works ..he has airplanes worth a lakh each...spitfires and Cessna's and sukhois....

Beginners ...there is nothing that the internet cannot teach you....you might make a few mistakes. .. And they will teach you....
Make small airplanes first..and work your way up.... Its easy..
Keep flying.

We could go on this forever. I just agree to disagree based on my own experience

Completely agree on your Advice Sanjayji. I have a neighbor who is currently aspiring to get into the hobby. like all beginners he intends to start by making a Jet Plane or a two propeller plane..so on.. I am glad I could guide him to start with Sky Surfer. He has now realized the 100 factors that have be considered( As mentioned by you). But net net...You should start with a simple RTF and graduate to building.

+1 sanjayrai55,

I have given up asking this question to newcomers:
'If you wanted to learn to ride a bicycle, would you start by trying to build one?'

With due respect to IF's views, perhaps the problem is lack of clarity of the objective

1. Learning to fly
2. Learning to build (separate paths for balsa and depron)
3. Learning to design

Combining these three in one project is, in my opinion experience, a sure recipe for disaster!
But of course one learns by personal experience, not necessarily those of others.
So to each his own. And best of luck.

Some people can't ...just can't learn by making...its too much for them...
Others grasp and suck it in like a parasite....
I love parasites....its faster that way.
Fastest way to learn to fly?? Sky surfer...and rtf...
Or you can go step by step...and make better models than a boring sky surfer.💪👍
