hey all,

i want to buy dji phantom 3 or Dji mavic pro, i tried to buy from GEB EBAY, but the shipment returned and i got refund.

I was thinking of trying with other sites like amazon.com or aliexpress if they can deliver drone to my home.I can pay extra, while sellers like avcs are asking for around 20-30k+ on DJI original MRP.

if one successfully imports a small drone like mavic which is around 1000$ even pay 200-300$ on shipping and customs that still would be a good deal.

anyone with success?

I'm also waiting since a year now nobody could while some got lucky clearing customs well it's a 50-50

Guys don't even think about it now. Most of the customs guys are now well equipped and possess knowledge about drones/quadcopters. They are always on a hunch and have been directed to confiscate anything related to drones... they are even aware that people often import parts and then assemble multirotors on their own, so now they even look for any parts that might resemble drone parts. However, this may not be fool poof. I am talking from my experience and from reference from a recent conversation with customs superintendent in Mumbai. Now don't ask me how..  ;D

All those who import drones are already in the watch list !!!!

So, forget about importing drones... the only way is to get it along when traveling abroad and that too if you lucky with customs... it's a big risk..!!!

I wouldn't agree 100% here as importing drones is not totally illegal. Getting commercial drones requires certain paper work and permits from DGCA ! Hobby grades quadcopter shouldn't be a problem.
If imports were totally ban then how are the sellers on Amazon.in and other so many website like rcmumbai, rcbazaar etc are getting their goods from??? All the importer are importing and reselling them as well. It would actually depend on how you do your clearance in the customs. Most of the officers would be aware of the amendments which happened after they initially banned the imports in 2014. After that 2 amendments were issued by DGCA !
I would agree that there is still no clarity on imports, selling and flying drones in India. Everyone has a bit different opinion. However I would suggest keep reading the updates on
Recent De-licensed frequency band - WPC and other DGCA website.

On my recent trip to USA before departing I asked one of the custom officer of me getting the quadcopter while my return trip and he informed me that it has to be of certain specifications which are allowed. (basically hobby grade). Upon more research on WPC website it clearly mentions that Quads flying at 5.8GHZ frequency do not require any permit or clearance from Wireless Planning and Coordination wing of India However thats just one part second is the DGCA website which mentions that flying a quadcopter is illegal, however quads etc which runs on 5.8Ghz and if you are flying below 200 feet you need permit from local bodies i.e Municipality etc. and do not require a permit form DGCA. If you intend to fly above 200 feet you need prior permission and license from DGCA.
P.S Another tip to import quadcopter would be order a kit and assemble here!!!
Please follow the guidlines given on WPC and DGCA website for save flying.

Idk y in India it's so hard to import Quadcopter (referred by them as drones )where they clearly mentioned on 5.8ghz is permitted this things never happened to other countries  :headscratch:

Many countries now have tighten their laws on these machines, if you can imagine many things can go wrong while flying if the flying conditions are compromised.
 I think we all agree here that serious injuries can happen with these machines if proper care is not taken or even personal privacy can be compromised with quads having camera etc.
Not everyone with quads have good intentions.  But I do agree that in India the laws are still not clear with respect of assigning flying zones or differentiating hobby quads and commercial grade components  quad.

Why dont you get it from a authorized DJI seller.

Please check with Ascom and rcmumbai. They have stopped selling any kind of drones.
They don't deal with DJI anymore or any other drones now.

The police have been interrogating all sellers and it's just a matter of time that other sellers would be questioned.

I would suggest to refrain from sharing malpractices to dodge customs and authorities.

Is it safe to order airplane kits from Hobbyking?  Or they will be held by the customs aswell?

Chances of detaining are quite high...

Looking at all whats happening I prefer not to live here in this country anymore...  countries grow.. in all terms but.. here it  seems like they want to sink like lead in a water..  the authority is here just to create problems..my friends from Canada & US have been ordering radio sets & quad copter & all is been delivered to their door steps. But if one wish to create pain & trouble there are many ways...which Indian authorities are very good at.

 i think the application to wireless planning commission in their format is the key to the solution [ that is to import rc transmitters etc]; has anyone been able to make that application at all? i believe that application is highly technical and only a telecom engineer/specialist would be able to complete; that application format is available on wpb website.

My only question is how a ordinary hobbyist import a radio.. not every one is a telecom engineer & whats the objective of making such rules in this country...
