RC India

Hello,
I joined this forum recently. I am a fan of airplanes, and I have been in the hobby of aeromodelling for about a year, making gliders. I am planning to get into RC. I already have a few electronics, viz

FlySky CT6A (6-ch Transmitter)
Odin 1818 brushless motor (2800 kv, 220g thrust with 5" by 3" prop)
E-flite pro brushless 10amp ESC
Wolfpack 2 cell 500 mah battery

I am planning to make my first build out of corrugated cardboard,4-ch, basic airplane design with a standard airfoil. I really need help on determining the size, weight and optimum design for the build. I don't know any person who may be like a mentor where I stay, in Bangalore.
Any help is much appreciated.

You have bought an Odin Motor, which must be from RC Bazaar. Ask them to guide you to some experienced modellers.

Search this forum, you will find plenty of people from Bangalore.

Instead of Corrugated Paper, think of Corrugated Plastic sheet

Yes, corrugated plastic is definitely better, but firstly, I don't know where to get it in larger sizes. Secondly, I recently discovered a HUGE pile of scrap cardboard boxes lying in the attic. This sparked the idea of building an RC plane.

Corrugated cardboard has a poor strength to weight ratio, absorbs moisture and breaks easily. Don't go for it else you may be disappointed after a lot of work. Use Depron foam, HD Styrofoam or Corro-plast.

Sai considering the motor and electrics you got, IMHO foam (as suggested by Sanjay) would be the best option. Even coro might be a bit too heavy especially since it might be your first build. Search for Depron, EPP, or Styrofoam  in Bangalore.

I decided to start scratch-building  my first airplane. My design will revolve around my electronics. So now I see that my thrust is 220 g and kv is 2800 with a 5" by 3“ prop. I want to know
1. How much my total weight should be
2. How much my wingspan should be

After reading your questions, I sincerely suggest yo start with a bought-out model, and scratch build later. First learn to fly, and understand Radio Controlled flight. Just my advice, not a good idea to try too much in the beginning

If u r a beginner ans scratch building without any help then u cant find out the flaws in ur model if any and after a few unsuccessful attempts you will loose hope and eventually quit this hobby. Believe me i have faced almost the same situation . Go to RCB or RCD and buy a beginner plane like sky surfer or easy star a good 6 ch radio like the RCB 6i (dont remeber the model name) and then start . Coz then u will get an idea of wats going on and how each control surfaces and all work. Gain some confidence then start scratch building ...
