Hi,

I am a beginner with RC planes and have no prior experience on the subject.  Planning to start off with a beginner plane and I am looking for something that I can start flying straight out of the box.

I found a nice plane on RC Bazaar that seemed to perfectly fit the bill.

http://www.rcbazaar.com/products/1375-j3-cub-3-channel-rc-plane-rtf.aspx

When I called RC's support, they told me that I should not buy that for a variety of reasons such as:

- the plane is small and delicate
- parts are not available in case if you damage it on crash
- if the throttle cuts the plane will crash - cannot glide

They suggested that I buy the following:

http://www.rcbazaar.com/products/1301-sky-surfer-v2-ready-to-fly-with-transmitter-lipo-charger.aspx

The reason they recommend it is because:

- the plane is more robust
- parts are easily available in case if you damage it on crash
- if the throttle cuts the plane will not crash, it glides

The real problem is that the recommended plane is twice the price of the cub and I am not sure if they are just trying to sell me something more expensive or it is really worth it.

I understand that the recommended plane comes with a better controller etc., but my question is that as a beginner, if I go ahead with the cub will that be a bad decision.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,

S

Or a Multiplex Easystar II from rcdhamaka.com. It costs you around 6500+ with all electronics.

Or if you're considering the Sky Surfer there's a skysurfer (v1) available at rcbharat.com for Rs. 5300 which includes ALL electronics (you only need a LiPo and a radio system)

@Sharkfly.. pls take this for granted here that we will not "sell" you something "more expensive" (Skysurfer V2).. suggestions had been made by the RCB team according to your flying skills or you might even end up crashing and throwing away the J3 cub in a few days and spend again on a larger model.. having said this.. its a budget issues and you need to make the call / decision.. its its not a budget issue then go for a floater / pusher model

May be
1. Larger wingspan
2. Better suits FPV pilots.

Information sharing improves knowledge of both.

RCBharat,
Does all ON SALE items are including taxes & postage from your site? your prop stock is attractive.

Skysurfer is the optimum I think without Tx, A 9Ch Tx with this will be better if budget is not strict. And for this some time may be taken for collection of fund in this festival season.

Thanks everyone for your help!  You guys were real quick. Smiley

I think the Skysurfer is the way to go then.  A colleague and I have been discussing and he has some experience with RC due to his friends.  He has also been recommending the Skysurfer with the 6ch Fky Sky controller as we can then use the controller for other planes once we have some experience with flying this one.

@RCBazaar - no offence meant friend, I was being paranoid as I am a newbie.  I am sure your intention was to guide us towards a better choice.  So, thanks for that.  Btw, is the V2 is better than a V1?  It would be great if you can share the differences and whether that should matter to me as a beginner.

Cheers,
S
