Post by: suniljoseph on April 11, 2009, 02:26:58 PM
I am waiting for the FMS simulator that I bought from rcforall.

Once I have the feel of it, I would need some help to get started.

I got the controller today. I already had the sim and it is fun. Of course I am crashing a lot, but still better than last few days when i was using joystick.
But the sim is not that great. got to try and get a better sim...

Which one do you feel is not good ? The hardware, software or both ?

If it is the software, it is expected to be basic, and I think there are ways to make this controller work with other sim programs.

the software... it is pretty basic. i am not able to orient myself since it is so barren. the hardware works pretty well, but I am not sure if it is worth the price.
I am able to fly without crashing, but the problem is with landing, mostly because of lack of orientation. And I need more control when trying to fly slow. i made about 6-8 landings out of which only one started in the runway and ended in the runway. most of the others went off the runway or never even touched the runway.

overall pretty good experience.

Will try downloading other sim programs.

Have you searched on the web for better scenary for FMS ?  These should help you get much better bearings for your flights (especially landing approaches).

For example, this one

http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~atong/

has many links to such sites (like http://rcp.web.infoseek.co.jp/fms_scenery_e.html#new )

I have found quite a few models  on these and other links :
http://kimagure-hikoki.hp.infoseek.co.jp/FMSMODEL/Hanger_index.html

http://rcp.web.infoseek.co.jp/fms_aircraft_e.html

You can enhance the varity of models with this

I think I figured out what I was doing wrong. I was using ailerons to make corrections while landing and not using rudders at all. Correcting it now.
Thanks for the links, but most of them are too comic like.
Downloading Realflight now 9 hours more to download. let me see if it works. If that doesn't work, will try a few other sims.

Sai, could you give me a list of simulators that will work with this?

One option is a cable like this  (not from Amazon, but someone local in India).

http://www.amazon.com/Futaba-Compatible-Simulator-Transmitter-Interface/dp/B000RO5RKC

There is a way to use serial port also, let me dig up the web references.

I have got same problem. So I tried this.
Just right click on your FMS icon, go to properties, then in compatibility option check Run this program in compatibility mode for.
then dropdown menu below it will be active. Select windows XP service pack 2 option. then try running FMS.
This worked for me!

If anybody wants link for dll file then it can be downloaded from here http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/D/d3drm.dll/5.1.2600.0/download.html.

In case of 64 bit PC, just copy this file to C:\Program Files (x86)\FMS
In case of 32 bit PC, copy it to C:\Program Files\FMS.

Hey do you guys have Nvidia graphics card...?
I just tried installing it with both ATI and Nvidia cards. It works well with ATI but flickering with Nvidia. :banghead:

Yes mine is nvidia based XFX- geforce 7600GT
running updated driver 197.45 so indeed its specific problem with nvidia card.
Thanks for finding the solution  {:)} {:)}

I just found a newer driver v258.96
downloading it now hope this might solve the problem.

With nvidia you could do is only turn off the texture from option menu when you run FMS.
It should stop flickering but the textures are really bad then.

It seems that as FMS current release is old and does not support nvidia card.
I searched on internet and rcgroups but there is no solution available to run FMS properly with nvidia graphics card.

If you are using joystick or transmitter as controller then there is a free simulator named RC Desk Pilot.
It has better graphics than FMS but the the only thing is that you cannot fly it using Keyboard.
It can be found here http://rcdeskpilot.com/

Can someone suggest a radio for training on sim & can also work with actual RC flying so I will make just 1 time investment.

Post by: anwar on August 02, 2010, 09:10:17 AM
There information is already here... and it starts with your budget.  You can go for the simple one from RCForAll.in, or go for a bigger brand from Futaba/Spektrum/Airtronics (all depending on your budget).  Try to get 2.4Ghz ones.  Sometimes radios pop up on the "For Sale" board, so that's another option.

Thanks Anwar,
My budget is 15-25K not sure if its enough or too less.

The simple SIM from RCForAll.in is 1350/- but what i understand is that its too basic & I may need to invest later in a better sim & actual radio (dual purpose) so I am thinking why not make 1 time investment.

Nope, I was referring to the full (but simple) radio from RCForAll.  If others know of any simple radios from other sellers, please add the information here.

With that kind of budget, go for a branded 7 channel radio (or better).  It should serve you for a life time.

I believe someone like Vinay (who I believe has one) can comment better about the 8 channel Airtronics radio.  Their 10 channel radio has been getting rave reviews recently for sure.
