Think 9G servos are more than enuf if u r planning on a fomie.

@aviator thanks, I am planning to get sunpack (coro) and build a model from that...could not figure out where I can find biofoam or high density foam in Delhi.

Go with coro if you can't find foam.  It's kind of easier to work with and lasts long.
The MG servos are ok with the motor you have chosen (I have both). Just take care of AUW and wing loading of your plane.

BTW, which plane are you planning to build?

@swapnil thanks for your response. cant correlate MG servos with motor? metal gear servos are ok with this motor because of weight..?

Right.  That motor can give sufficient thrust for carrying those servos.

Have you visited Spadtothebone? (www.spadtothebone.com/)
I tried a couple of conventional designs first but that didn't work out so well. Then I built a pizzabox (PBF) which flew good but was too agile for me as a beginner.

The first plane I did more than 10 flights with and could handle well was the ESPA3D (a 3D plane, can you believe that?! I guess I had too much simulator practice).

So, I'm not the right person to advice you about trainers! :)
Use the search box, there's loads of beginner-plane build logs here.

Good Luck!

Availability of square PVC pipe or stick is the hurdle, I am searching for its alternatives easily available.

Okay if I use aluminium U shape channel for fuse for spad..do you think this motor can provide enough thrust for that...?

Title: Re: Help needed....Is this is good electronics for a biginner trainer...?
Post by: Swapnil on March 31, 2012, 03:58:04 PM
PVC has a tendency to wobble. I use wooden sticks (beading sticks, used for furniture edges). You can reduce weight by drilling holes along its length. Wooden sticks are used in the original ESPA3D too.

I think aluminium would be too much! :)

See the 1st pic (f.jpg) in post #8 here:
http://www.rcindia.org/electric-planes/espad3d-coro-(another-3hr-build!)/

You can see the wooden stick. It doesn't go all the way to the motor or tail and has holes along the length.
(Oh, and that plane doesn't look so ugly anymore! It was just my young cousins back then. :) )

In f.jpg of post number 8, there is the beauty flying high in the sky...cant see wooden stick there in that pic. these wooden sticks are called margins, and they are used as edges on 3/4Inch plywood. I have lying around 100 feet of these margins in 3/4inch and 1 inch size. that was surplus from the recent furniture work I got done recently.

Err... sorry. That's a resized low-res pic. I was watching the original one on my PC when referring to it. You can still see the stick under the belly even though the holes can't be seen...

Thanks for the info on the margins :) . Our local carpenters call them something like 'beading' sticks. I've used a 1/2 in. one for the ESPA3D.

Making an RC plane from straw board, ( Coro sheet ), is far easier.. go for a wingspan of 38 inch at least, and 7 inch chord.. a polyherdral will help to stabilize even more.. with a tappered edge.. a 1000 RPM motor with at least 200 Watt power, or 1400 RPM with 220 Watt, with a 9X6 and 8X5 will works nicely, with any 9 gram servos.. can use wooden reapers to reinforce, by stripping on a circular saw, in to 4mm X 4mm strips, will be great.. a 1200 mAh, to 2200 mAh battery will help.. all above took about two hours to make one.. a pusher in to same configuration helps to protect motor from a direct hit.. have some nice flights..

HI Amit !

We have made more than 65 trainer models using the same combo. The reason we use metal gear servo is it does not break during hard landing or a crash while a plastic gear servo breaks. And 3 gms extra on each servo hardly makes a difference as the motor is giving a nice thrust.
we make the high winger trainer models with ailerons or without ailerons(Polyhedral wing for stability) using 2mm and 3mm Plastic Coro sheet.I can send you the dimensions.
They fly beautifully and are very stable.
We use 3/4 inch Plastic Electric conduit or Pine wood as a spar and keep the airfoil flat at the bottom while folding the wing at the leading edge.
Very simple to make and will take maximum 4 hours of construction time.
I will post some photos of the trainer which we make.

All the electronics are readily available with me. All brand new and packed.
Can be shipped Immediately so that you can build your trainer asap.

@roopeshkrishna sir, thanks for your valuable guidelines. Its a good omen for me that you dropped in with your guidance. I have gone through all your scratch building threads, your life size INS Viraat, and your in comparable ability to make useful equipments from trash like your CDR to brushless motor thread. Its an honour SIR to get guidance from you... :salute:

@varungarg thanks, I will PM you for accessories as well.

@ahmad thanks I will get in touch with mr. puri.

BTW: I am making this trainer for my 3 years old son. He was asking for toy plane and I told him that we will make a real one that flys as well.

Electronics and accessories are sorted...now comes radio. How come all the online shops have zero stock of Tx/Rx? Only RCBharat have stock of FlySky 9CH...

@swapnil Should I go for a FlySky 6 Channel or a FlySky 9 CH or wait for RChobbyAddict before they restock Turnigy 9CH...

I am going to connect Tx to FSM and practice on that while making the model.. I know its not a 2-3 hours job for me, its definitely going to take a week.

Okay I read both FlySky and Turnigy are same, so the question comes 6 Ch or 9 Ch...

Totally up to you. If you are going to stay in this hobby for long then 9x is the one to go for.

Latest price updates for Coro sheets:

2mm (6 X 4) - 75 rs.
3mm (6 X 4) - 100 rs.
4mm (6 X 4) - 150 rs.

Today got 2 X 2mm, 2 X 3mm and 1 X 4mm coro sheets from Chuna Mandi, Paharganj, New Delhi

Now they have coro sheets in 4 stunning colors, Yellow, Blue, Red and Green too. I bought plain white sheets.

I went to the wholesale guy in a very crowded market, was looking like "Sabzi Mandi", according to the rates I have seen in forums, found his rates very reasonable.

@swapnil dont worry If you are in need of coro sheets, I can courier them to you from Delhi. I can get them cut in half, like in 3 X 4 feet size.

Coroplast is nice and very easy to use and u got a great deal on them too.. I use it to make kfm airfoil wings and stabilzers. But for the fuselage, it may not be that ideal as the flutes give it a higher tendency to fold.. And your electronics are good enough for a 30-45in plane (just make sure you dont exceed the 1200gm limit as its your max thrust).

Best of luck and I think your son could be the youngest RC Pilot in India!!
