Title: Is flying a plane 'that' difficult?
Post by: hyd_quads on February 10, 2012, 04:37:39 PM
Hi.
I am new to RC (4 months). I have got fairly enough knowledge about the parts used (LiPos, burshless motors, ESCs, UBECs, props, etc.)  but I have not made anything till now. I am build-"ing" a quadcopter right now. (with a MultiWii controller). I thought quads would be the easiest to make and fly, so began making one.
The MultiWii will arrive at my home by tomorrow and all other parts by 25th March. I guess it'll not take me more than a week to make it as I already know what I have to do.
I am planning to make an AIRPLANE this summer. I have heard of people going to RC clubs, airfields, etc to "learn" flying... Is flying so difficult that I have to learn it from some experienced RC pilot? Please suggest. Thanks.

Vineet

'nope' flying' is the easiest part you dont need to learn that.......untill you plan to land it.....giggle:..... this is the crux.

Yes every thing require learning and training (you may not remember but it took a lot of effort when u start learning to walk on ur feet :) ) Aircraft flying is a complete science. But in case you think you are in a hurry and dont want to invest much time ....'learn to land it' "safely', otherwise apart from other skills you also have to learn and spend most of your time on how to rebuild a plane.

All the best

 :)

No if are in a situation like how I was when I started without anyone around to guide or fall back to, if you are determined and rock solid in your resolve not to get disheartened and to catch the bull by the horn then bash on regardless. You will learn eventually may be much earlier if you are doing what you have said about going over the details of everything and whats involved in flying thoroughly in your mind every time time before attempting.

Practicing on simulator really helps a lot which I realized much after I learnt RC flying.

However I would say that bash on regardless attitude was what which helped me in learning RC faster.

Even if I had adopted the more cautious simulator approach, buddy flying and then solo it would have taken me much much more time than what I have because I would not have had the courage to let go and let loose.

Scratch built a more forgiving model, enough plans are available then let loose on your passion.

Definitely would agree to that. To add to that flying away from you is the easiest. Getting the plane to fly towards you is the part which you have to get used to.

  :giggle: Absolutely sir, :giggle:

My aermodelling carreer started in Sep 2009.

Had no one to teach me. Did not have any one to be with when flying. Did not have the privileges of refering to such wonderful forum. Was not aware of simulators. No one around to scare me nor to be scared that I am going to break his model. :giggle:

The model which I am going to crash is what I have to remake or repair for next day.

Internet and read read and read was only mantra.

By the time I was posting in the forum in Dec 2009, I was not but flying but advising others.

So... No doubts....Let loose your passion and Bash on regardless...  :giggle:

I have seen people learning swimming in six months. Best way learning swimming has always been to throw the person into pool the first time. It is something like that.

But in no way I am advocating learning swimming without correct breathing technique.

Like swimming in RC. it absolutely helps if learnt with correct technique and style. But that should not be the stumbling block.

You certainly do need to learn how to fly an airplane, either using a good simulator or from an experienced person. When you haven't flown anything, it seems easy. Try flying and landing a plane on a good simulator, you'll understand what the real deal is.
