1) Get hold of a 6 channel radio as per your budget (personal preference 2.4GHz)

When one begins to learn, try to fly in a practically no-wind situation to get hold of the basic concepts of flying.

Personally, I have been trying to go the scratch build route and am learning to fly properly without crashing.

Dear Pankaj,
We have a small ground which is not very windy because of buildings around. I am too very eager to scratch build one.

However, if one has to learn on his/her own without guidance (as in my case), then starting off on an expensive model may not work. In that kind of setup, a small electric setup may be a better option.

True. But from my experience at OUR flying sites, the wind is usually too much for the inexpensive models. At best the plane is flying you rather than vice-versa!

And if one goes for a better electric, the start up cost ( a couple of batteries, good charger) is as much - if not more - than a nitro plane.
