Title: Question on building a spare battery pack using four 1.2V 2800mAh NiMh.
Post by: sim_tcr on January 13, 2018, 03:20:25 PM
Hello All,

I am a beginner to RC Crawlers.
I bought the HB - P1802 https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B017BAE9IA/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=3638&creative=24630&creativeASIN=B017BAE9IA&linkCode=as2&tag=abitasimon-21&linkId=d33b29b934d256a524d2481d9e672364 (https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B017BAE9IA/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=3638&creative=24630&creativeASIN=B017BAE9IA&linkCode=as2&tag=abitasimon-21&linkId=d33b29b934d256a524d2481d9e672364) (blue) model and it works well.
The battery pack came with the model is 4.8V 700mAh NiCd pack.
I wanted to make some spare battery pack with four 1.2V 2800mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries by using battery holder like below,
(http://www.rcindia.org/beginners-zone/question-on-building-a-spare-battery-pack-using-four-1-2v-2800mah-nimh/?action=dlattach;attach=733679)
Will it work to drive the car?
The battery connector on the pack (female) pic below,
(http://www.rcindia.org/beginners-zone/question-on-building-a-spare-battery-pack-using-four-1-2v-2800mah-nimh/?action=dlattach;attach=733681)

And the connector on the car (male) pic below,
(http://www.rcindia.org/beginners-zone/question-on-building-a-spare-battery-pack-using-four-1-2v-2800mah-nimh/?action=dlattach;attach=733685)

What are these connectors called in online websites?
If the exact one is difficult to find, what other alternative I can by online?

If this is not the right section, please move it wherever it belongs.

Thank you.

Thank you for responding.
I think this is almost similar i want to make.
I dont want to hard solder the batteries, I wanted to use my existing battery re charging unit to recharge the batteries. That why I want to use a battery holder.
Can you tell me the details on that connector you are using?  Is that a jumper connector like this https://www.amazon.in/Adraxx-Jumper-Wire-Female-Set/dp/B01LXJ7IUZ/ref=sr_1_21?ie=UTF8&qid=1515842700&sr=8-21&keywords=jumper+cables?

No

It's a standard Servo connector

Hello Folks,

Im trying to build a spare battery pack for my sons RC rock crawler. The current battery pack is a 4.8v 700mAh pack. I want to build a higher capacity pack with rechargeable batteries from reputed brands.

I have come across this thread and am planning to take a similar approach:

Kindly confirm if this approach will work.

Thanks and Regards

Above setup did not work well. Because the batteries were too old and did not have enough juice left. So i used 2 4000mah old tablet batteries in series and run with that.

Thanks for your reply. So if I use a new set of batteries with the batter holder mentioned by you, will it work? I will have to solder the jst-sm connector to the battery holder.

Getting the exact connector may be an issue. Buy jst connector and replace the connector on car as well to jst
