RC India

A member of the forum who is a beginner from the Mumbai area asked me the following questions via PM.  Since it would be best to get the collective wisdom of the group on these, I am posting the questions verbatim here :-

1) please let me know which one is best either electric RC plane or Nitro RC plane...and also give me the details for both the planes for thier components/item like plane body/Radios/Motor/Servos/Battery/etc....for both the Electric and Nitro Planes...with thier Prize and Company details...and their availability in india.

2) If i am looking long term in to this hobby then which Transmitter and radio will be suitable.

3) if i am looking for temporary like just fly once and leave it then which will be best...like any china product etc.

4) Suggest if any Transmitter we can use in Both ELectric and Nitro Planes.

1) Electrics are easier to start with (especially with the nitro issues in India), there is no doubt about that.

You will need plane, speed controller (ESC), motor, propellor, servos, receiver, transmitter/radio and a battery.  You may need some building tools (like glue/epoxy) depending on whether the plane you are getting is almost-ready-to-fly (ARF) or ready-to-fly (RTF).

3) Hmm, you can try the simple dual rotor chinese planes available in most good toy shops.

4) Pretty much all radios with at least 4 channels can be used with both nitro and electrics. With nitros, having the ability to adjust endpoints in the radio becomes an important feature to have.

1) Sothing like a glider with 3 channels ( Mr. Moss is a better option if you don't want to build)

2) Better go for any radio with more than 4 channels. I don't discreminate manufacturers. If possible go for a 2.4GHz 6 channel set.

3) Not sure if you should or should not ....

4) Anwar's answer is best fit.

Would suggest avoiding the dual motor planes, thats a sure way to leave the hobby  :-\ In which case why buy it in the first place. May as well invest in a simulator and join and leave the hobby virtually any time. Learn and do all your flying (and much better flying than trying to make a dual motor plane fly) on the simulator till such time you want to get into real planes and actual flying.

Make the first plane a cheaper investment. A slow stick or a Mr. Moss, as you like it. The TX is something that you will use for a long time (assuming that you will not leave the hobby), so invest more on that.
