Title: running of brushless motor ... plz help...
Post by: pankaj on February 04, 2010, 01:30:44 AM
:help:i have just purchased 4 brushless motors and 4 ESCs to make a quadrotor heli. ???
i have a 4 channel tranceiver, so can i put all the 4 ESCs signal plug(the three pin wire  :-X) into the receiver. :banghead:

yea i know question is childish but plz help ...(upload images if possible :salute:) .thanks in advance.
 :help:
image is below..

Receiver power should be provided by only one of the ESCs, so disconnect the middle wire from the 3 wire cables from other three ESCs.

What transmitter and receiver are you using ?  That information is a must before people can recommend which receiver  to buy.

Also, how did you confirm that one of the channels is indeed not working ?

i m not using any :'(,i just got one and my friend(to whom it belongs) told me that 3 channels are working only...
so i m planning to buy a new one ,nyway i have to buy a new one later....kindly suggest . thanks.

The issue is that the type of receiver is intimately related to the type of transmitter.

So if are you going to use a new receiver with your friend's existing transmitter, then please let us know that brand and model that transmitter is.

Or, if your intention is to get a completely new pair (transmitter and receiver), then please clarify it.

is middle wire same in all ESCs coz i m using EMAX  esc 18 a..

Quote
Channels : The number of distinct/individual controls you can remotely operate. They can be motor / servo / lights etc.

You can control 4 distinct items with a four channel radio system; typically one motor and 3 servos.

this is a quote of anwar sir on another question....

my question is that can't we control 4 brushless motors from a 4 channel radio system.....(or is it one brushless motor and 3 servos).. ???

Title: Re: running of brushless motor ... plz help...
Post by: anwar on February 04, 2010, 05:15:41 PM
The answer is in my quote itself. Each channel can control one item. *Typically* it is one motor and 3 servos, but that is only the common case.  It can be a mix of motors, servos, lights etc; including only/multiple motors.

You cannot run 4 motors like 4 servos of a plane .
Quad needs mixing .
I came across this some time back , but the motors are brushed motors :

I did not get into the specifics of the "quad design" itself.  But technically, a receiver can very well throttle control 4 motors.  What Sai is trying to say is that just connecting them that way will NOT give you a flying quad-rotor.

Your  right Anwar  a Servo is also a motor  hence running motors per say is not the problem the issue is to get a controllable air craft

I agree.
Just connecting 4 motors to a single throttle will not give a controllable quadrotor.
The motor control must be mixed to get a stable flight.
Then the must be a control loop to stabilize the quad in flight ,hover and transition from hover to flight n vice versa.

yes i want both transmitter and receiver.....
72mhz or 2.4 ghz ..i dont care  .....all i want is 100 to 300 meters distance of operation...
and not to mention ....cost must be comparitively less ...

thanks "anwar" sir for your help
. :help:is it necessary to put a gyro on my quadcopter or can i go along without a gyro...
(i dont want a gyro personally )

Since the signals from all the channels are same, Using 2 Gyros, 1 each for any 2 adjacent motors should automaticaly throttle control and get a stable hover. Better use HH mode  ;) But expensive on the other hand. These gyros should take care of any changes in wind etc. Each gyros cost 700 bucks though, but can be reused in any other planes/Helis in the future. Just my suggestion ;D.

Product selection is entirely your thing, as you alone know your constraints (budget, features etc) ;)

There was one mentioned here from Sai/RCForAll.

About the gyro part, I never really looked into quad designs in any depth, so it would take me some good reading up to answer this question.  It is probably the same as you doing it :)

Plus, there is quite some discussion on this forum itself.

can anybody help me selecting a Tx and Rx(4 channel) for 4 brushless motors :banghead:

heard that rcforall(sai sir) is providing a 4 channel tranciever(tx and rx) in 2700rs.

any suggestions....

Budget? AFAIK the cheapest useful ones is the 2.4 Ghz from Sai. Also if possible dont buy just a 4 ch one, buy the 6ch ones. You may need another 2 spare channels in case you want to put a servo in there or build a plane with flaps. I thought you already had a TX/RX. ???

:discuss: :discuss: i am planning to manually wirelessly control all the 4 motor via 4 channels.is a gyro necessary??

for tx and rx what about this ....
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8337&Product_Name=Hobby_King_2.4Ghz_4Ch_Tx_&_Rx_(Mode_1)

sound like cheaper than rcforall...
not sure about quality..

dnt know if its possible to control 4 motors manually,
Without any mixing n all.
A small mistake can bring down the whole thing.
Flight stabilization is a issue
where u may have to adjust speed constantly.

1. Ordering radio from outside :  Please read up on the issues people have been with this option.  It would entirely depend on your luck whether it reaches you (with or without customs duty), or gets held by customs as a banned item.

2. Flying a heli where only one control needs to be stabilized (the tail) without a gyro is practically impossible even for the best RC heli pilots.  A quad rotor would have much more inherent instability. So you can imagine what kind of a task you are signing up for :(

I say this with brotherly affection... that it looks like you have quite a bit of homework to do on what you are trying to do, and there is no short-cut except to read (and then read some more) !

Also before you choose on any radio, see if it supports all the mixing that is requrired for this project and FUTURE.

For example, before buying a radio, I always thought I would never fly Helis as I didnt like them. But I still went ahead and brought a radio that supported Helis well. And now my first RC toy is a Heli :giggle: and I still don't own a plane yet.

alright ....everybody thanks .. :salute:

here are all the helps recieved...

1. it is almost impossible to hover a quad without gyro due to stability issues.(anwar sir)...................yes i got it with brotherly affection :-[
2. mixing diagram for quadrotor (rcforall).....................will be aproaching you for mixers and gyros shortly. {:)}
3. buy a 6 ch tx rx as you may need one spare channel(vinay)............i will try if my budget allows.. :-\

now i m looking for a 3 axis gyro (so i dont have to use 3 separate gyros),1 tx rx  4 channel ,3 mixers. (:|~

any suggestios.  :banghead:

I think a 3 axis gyro is pretty expensive. Not sure though, Never bothered to even look for one. ;D

Never came across a 3 axis gyro working with servo interface. There flybarless systems for helis are the closest, but not what you need. If you are looking for an electronics project, then there are 3 axis gyro module. It'd be far easier and cheaper to just buy 3 gyros.

Pankaj, Whats the MAX budget for this project? Some experienced people can tell you if its possible or not to implement/finish the project based on that.

http:// ok i got it i t will be easier to use 3 gyro. budget means we can spent 3000 on gyro
