my first plane is this "super slow 28" very very easy to build. it took me just 2 days to finish it. the material i used is coro (ad board- got of them from electrical posts) i just love this material, as it wont break what ever u do, but it will bend. to avoid this bending, i inserted several satay sticks ( round bamboo sticks, roughly 4mm dia and 10" length) inside the flutes. it is very strong and cheap( each cost 1Re only). my config is 1200kv 40 gram motor, gws 8040 prop, 3s 1000mah and 3 servos. goes unlimited vertical and 3d. attached the link of the tiled plane, pic of my plane and a very short video(my first flight... very rough flying. anyways cant believe my eyes :D, cant express my feeling by words :-X) wonderful hobby {:)} just loving it... all the best

Foamy Slowstick would be an Ideal beginner Plane. may be it high speed current or no air she flies well,
she flies so slow that u can actually walk before her.

SlowStick [44"wingspan].
1/4th wooden fuselage
2mini 9gm servo
towerpro 18T outrunner motor
25amp mag esc
castle micro stamp 4~9 gm esc
2200 Hxt 20C battery
futaba tx skysport

Since I Know I am under begginer then too I this plane survived many crashes.

My foamy Slowfly28 sctrach build is ready, if weather permits me in Bombay they I will try to maiden this weekend then I can put reviews of Slowfly.

"Foamy Slowstick" - Is that the regular ARF that can be bought all over the place, or something you built ?  :)

Please post some pictures if it is built by you.  Also, the wooden fuse is interesting.

The simplest ever for noobs can be 'THE NUTBALL' if you are not specific about the shape. It has only 3 pieces of foam!
Mine is here: http://www.rcindia.org/beginners-zone/the-nutball-a-great-trainer/

I had built a blue baby with a friend some time back, just some pointers, you might not get everything right the first time so if you are in no mood to see your first plane go down to a silly mistake try the snowball.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=930241&page=3
very little things to go wrong, I know its an ugly looking plate. If you are making the blue baby anyways, DONT just glue the dihedral wings in place i.e. dont connect the two pieces of wing using only glue, use a stick to hold them in place, this was the mistake I made and as soon as I hand launched the plane, it went a little far and the wings just folded upwards leading to a terrible crash.

thanx bro, will keep that in mind.

as far as snowball is concerned, i like it but its much less to build, actually i like building a bit more than flying for now :D (as no experience in flying :P)
i think i'll add snowball too in my list.
i'll be constructing all 3 before flying (3dx, blu baby and snowball)

and p.s. according to above list, will try flying them in reverse order)

btw before snowball, i was thinking about nutball to add to the list.
but snowball seems to be a bit more safe while crashing :D

On the snowball instead of adding foam floats you can experiment with empty (duh) 500 ml plastic bottles. The foam floats will be fragile for your first few rough landings.

If you are interested in a 3 channel trainer you can try this
http://www.rcindia.org/self-designed-diy-and-college-projects/scratch-build-ezfly-3ch-trainer/new/
it is a pusher prop with propeller housed inside the fuse so no chances of breaking the prop.

Blu Baby 33 is an excellent choice, even I am in the process of building one with kfm3 wings (go for undercambered wing if you are not good with ailerons). It's also good for learning as the monoblock design gives it a lot of strength.. Its very forgiving to CG settings too. You can have one ready in as less as 2 days.

best of luck!!

Hi Nitesh,
If you are a beginner I would not suggest building a scale model as crashes are inevitable and you would just be wasting your time in trying to get the scale looks. As it is, it is very hard to build a good looking scratch build.
I would suggest building a plane that flies well, not keeping looks a priority and once you are confident in your flying skills, then you can make any plane you want, and make it as scale as you want.
I recently read about a Blu Baby somewhere in this forum and that seems a very nice plane. Why don't you build that as your first plane. Its always nice to have a trainer plane you can trust and one that is forgiving and sturdy enough to take the crashes, not to mention easy to repair.
I'll see if I can find the link. :)

You can build the 33 inch version if you fly in an area with little wind or indoors.
Otherwise, the 40 inch version seems nice.

Yes Nitesh make a simple wing trainer plane. don't go for looks.
once you learned to fly, you can take out all electronics from that and make nice good looking plane.

Title: Help for my first RC plane
Post by: Prashant_G on July 21, 2013, 03:45:57 PM
Hello every one, this is my first post in this forum, i have built plane out of cardboard and local foam but that time i was not knowing about rc planes, i have just added 1.5 volt dc motor but finally it did not worked, but now i have learned lots of things from internet and want to built rc plane and want your help.
i have following thing from rc bazaar:
Avionic AV9A 9g Servo
Avionic M2226/25 KV1800 MICRO brushless motor
Avionic 20Amp ESC
Wolfpack 1300mah 20C 7.4V
Wolfpack B3AC 2s/3s compact charger
Electric Flight Prop 8 x 4 E
rcb 7x transmitter
I am confused which planes will be easy to built and fly as beginner, I am thinking to built Plane like Mr. Moss, GWS Slow Stick as they are more sturdy and do not break when there is crash landing. Image below is my home made plane model but its too heavy  :)

Oh, and if you still insist on making a scale looking model, I would suggest you get some simulator practice before actually flying it to save yourself from disappointment later on.

Hi Prashant welcome to the forum,
can we have the total weight of the model including the electronics. bcoz the motor you have chosen has max thrust of 500gms with 8x3 prop, make sure the weight stays around 600gms max . there are lot of foam or coro wing planes that you can choose from, just search with a right keyword in this forum,

All the very best, Happy flying.

Hi friends,
i have made an Extra300S from RC Power.com designed by Dave. Its really good for beginners.
Though it should make with Styrofoam or EPP. but I have made it with coroplast (locally called sunflex).
  I have used
 1. dys 2822 brushless motor of 1450kV
 2. Lipo battery 11.1v/1000mAh
 3. 20A esc
 4. two 9gm servos
 5. HK T6A 6 channel Tx/Rx

length of fuselage including rudder 68cm
wing span 70cm

Hi friends,
i have made an Extra300S from RC Power.com designed by Dave. Its really good for beginners.

Saw your video. You were unbelievably lucky.

But to say that an Extra is really good for beginners
Wow!
Since that statement contradicts everything in my experience, i have to conclude that i've not learnt anything in the last 50 years in this hobby!

Iyer sir
though the Extra300S is really a good flier for beginners like me. But still i have learnt that high wing gliders are the best for the beginners. I have already tried Flite test Simple Soarer. I am giving the link http://flitetest.com/articles/ft-simple-soarer-build. (http://flitetest.com/articles/ft-simple-soarer-build.) but the main problem is during the flight the nose tends terribly upwards. i have added extra weight in the nose . but still the problem arises.
  will u plz help me.

Add some down thrust.
search google and see why down thrust is needed and what is the effect of it.
the angle needed for DT depends on the situation.

EXTRA 300  - FOR BEGINNERS???  ??? ARE YOU JOKING? That is a 3D model for Advanced / Expert fliers. It is easy to build and a horror to fly as a newbie.

What a rank newcomer needs is a High wing Cessna type plan. My vote is for the Blue Baby.

My plane for beginners is Old Fogey because  though its a bit harder to make than most planes here, its super easy to fly and looks great. Even if you haven't flown a plane even in simulator, I guarantee that this is very stable. Here is my post containing the electronics, there is also link to the flitetest plans.
