RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

Someone, who just started RC flying, asked me in private; "what ARF should I get after flying an AXN Floater?".

Assuming he stays electric, what would be good ARF choices ?

If he is familiar with controls and other movements in Flotter, then he should upgrade himself to Pilatus Porter. this will give him an idea of building the birdie also, else go to E-Starter..!!!!!
ARF is not recomended,
WHAT SAY!!

ARF is not recomended,

I think models such as the Pilatus Porter would be considered "ARF", unless it came without any monokote covering already applied etc (in which case it would be called a "kit").  Just assembling the wings/tail/landing gear and installing electronics would still be an ARF.

BTW, how well does the Pilatus Porter fly ?  Is it good at self-correcting, or is it more like the Cessnas that are not very forgiving ?

Well My porter (purchased from flyrc) is trippy just like cessna and its not good cuz its sold as a trainer plane. But u can not fly it properly if wind speed is more than 5mph.

Slow Stick ? Is that more difficult to fly after AXN ?

May be depends on the person's eagerness to brace learning curve. I would consider flying AXN is inequivalent to the experience of High wing trainer in classic term. Moving ahead, one should try a low winger. If he is ready to foray into balsa (and has confident), there are few 400 class Low wingers from LHS:
http://flying--rc.blogspot.com/search/label/ELECTRICS
Any of the low winger like Cross Air or 3D like Extra/YAK/Tucano would be great.
There are some good EPP/EPO low winger from Hobby City as well.

It should be low wing aerobatic, not low wing 3D.  With a bit of speed, such models will not drop wings, or show any funny flying characteristics (regardless of the wind, well up to a moderate level of it).

Examples would be like Calmato, T-34 Mentor, Super Sport etc, but these are the bigger cousins. Wonder what the small electrics are that would be comparable to these.  Of course one can put electric setups on these.

Wouldn't Crossair / Mustang qualify as sports model ?
How about a Foamy 3D ? After my stint with Easy star, HK Mini Swift and Estratos Delta Wing, I am planning to fly a Depron 3D Batix Diablo.  Am I too ambitious ?

i have not maiden my pilatus so cant really say about the self correcting feature, and i doubt on that, as the wings doesn't have any dihedral, like e-starter which have a self correcting feature.

RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

Welcome again to RC India Smiley

The Parkmaster can work, if you use dual rates and/or expo on your radio to "calm it down".  Also, being an elapor based model, it can take quite a beating.  Do the first flight in a field with tall grass Smiley

Did you mean the Skyartec Cessna listed here : http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6331 ?  Or did you mean the other smaller one ?  Not sure the small one would work, as they get more unstable as they get smaller.

It would largely depend on the kind of flying you want to do  the easy Glider Pro or the Twin star would be two great Choices from MPX  assuming ofcourse that a person would have the mindset to pay for  a good plane after the Floater and does not feel like going back to the clone variety , I am sure the clones of the  easy glider pro are also available

We had the opportunity a few weeks back to check out the AXN Floater of Dilipbalan  against the MPX Easy Star flown under the same conditions  and  were able to absolutely  evaluate  the two side by side  it  reinforced our opinion about  MPX products .

So my advice to  the person if you seriously want to continue in Electric go for the MPX Twin Star  assuming that he would like to fly something other than a glider , the new MPX  fun cub should also be a great  choice  but too new hence I have not tried it.

Mustangs also need quite a bit of speed for landing and in flight,  if one can deal with that, then pretty much any plane would qualify !

If you put big prop of loe pitch with a low kv motor, which would make it fly slow (the 3D setup), AND you reduce the throws quite a bit, something like the Diablo will also work.
