Hey everyone ,
I had a small .07 car engine lying around with a water proof gear box . I want to utilise the engine in a boat . Any recommendations in size ? I want the boat to fast but not so fast either , a good 25-30kmph cruising speed would be good  Grin
I am going to build from scratch so it will be a very simple and small boat . It will be a box type of design with a thermocol base .
If anyone has to say anything about what the boats size should be , please mention it Smiley
Happy flying ,
Sahevaan

I wish I could help but I really don't understand what the .07 engine was designed for. If you could shed some light on that, maybe I would get a clearer picture.

I think there will be a small priblem with the thermacol base as it may not withstand the load of the engine............Mr VC is surely more talented and should comment on this please..............YOU can make a small model like this one

http://www.rcindia.org/boats-kites-trains-and-all-others/scratch-build-antares-cabin-cruiser/

and use the engine in this boat........

Sorry Sahevaan. I fruitlessly tried surfing the net for a reference. Just remember that water will offer more resistance to a flat bottomed boat (depending on the degree of submergence and the bow shape) and  keep the centre of gravity low or else she will flip on high speed turns. 25 - 30 kmph real speed will translate to a high scale speed.

As Kartik pointed out, even if you use very high density thermocol, it will need extensive ply bracing for a stable engine mount. Or else, the vibration will rip the engine right off.

There are very few boat modellers here and, I believe, all are into electrics. My knowledge of gas engines is very limited, I wish I could help you better. Maybe our friend Sunk? (Don) is more qualified.

Do your best.

No disrespect meant to the other boat builders here, especially Maestro Maharana! I know he is only into electrics.

It will only have the base made of thermocole . Rest of the build will be plywood .

Base of theramacol is the ony problem just try a small experiment
Fix your engine on high density themacol base of actual size and then start the engine and then slowly lift the base up holding it from the sides just put some foam below it as i am sure the base will break and engine will fall........

But there is one thing that you can do stick a layer of mica Or thinnest ply that you can find between the layers of thermacol, this will strenghten it.
Or you can  just make a normal boat and put the engine in it by making a new engine mount like this

                                             \     X     /
                                              \---- --/
                                               \       /
                                                \___/

as the base of boat is almost V shaped you can attach a horizontal board across the ends and place the engine at the place of X....Here the engine is placed in such a way that the shaft of engine points outside the screen.......others please comment

Regards

Kartik

hi guys,
as said above I'm an electric man Smiley
but............................ fuel engines usualy have more torque ? right...........
so a bigger hull than the anteres I'm thinking like min 24in but a hydro...........racer............ type hull.
then its just a case of matching the prop to the engine, this is the 'real power part'

Hey speed racer ,
what i meant by thermocol base is that the constuction will be with ply , under the boat will be a thermocol sheet whose shape resembles a flat bottom with smooth curves. Will upload the pics soon.
@sunk? - the prop will be under the water.
Thanks for the info though Smiley
