Title: DJI drone - flying with height restriction
Post by: Aeroresurrect on July 01, 2023, 08:28:34 AM
Dear Experts,
This query is for regular drone flyers and with knowledge about height restrictions.
For example, I want to fly my drone which has a height restriction of say 15 meters. Now , if I launch this drone from the balcony of a high-rise apartment, ( at 30 meter height) or  even a high outdoor cliff, what are the chances of the drone going out of control ?
See, after the drone leaves the balcony / cliff area and senses a height of more than 15 meters to ground, what happens ?  Will it descend to 15 meter level ( and refuse to come back to my balcony height for landing) or  the controls will still work despite the drone  sensing it is more than 15 meter (height restricted) from the current ground level ?  Or will it anyway come back to its original launching height, which looks technically impossible ?
Since I dont want to lose my drone and yet want to get cinematic shots from heights (>15 meters), I really want to know.
(Please dont tell me to hack the height restriction etc)
Thanks all

Given you are obviously a novice pilot keep it simple and fly from a wide open area to start with. Don't fly from a balcony.

Don't understand why you think the drone would go "out of control". Assuming you are talking about a cinematic type drone like a DJI Mini 3 Pro or Mavic, after take off you would be in control of it. It will just hover in the same position until you tell it to move or return to home.

What drone are you talking about? Features can be very different. No drone has a height restriction of 15 metres.

...and why are you asking this question under the "Boats" section  ???

DJI drones have height restriction of 15M in there software. when you connect your drone with your phone it automatically detects your location and when your flying limit reaches it start giving you notification and cannot fly above the limit. but u can simply disable this limit setting by using third party apps to change your location from India to US or Canada and disable your phone internet connection by which your drone cannot get your exact location and you can bypass 15M limit.
(But there is one drawback of this. you will not be able to use RTH feature on your drone because your drone cannot get your exact location so in any case of emergency like signal loss or low battery drone cannot lands by own)
