I guess this only works on powder.

Wouldn't one need to beef up the power system, to handle the extra resistance/load ?

If it is fresh powder snow (not "packed" snow or ice), it should not be that bad, I suppose.

Yep, i doubt whether this is possible if the snow is packed.
