Title: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 10:49:09 AM
Good morning all respected Modelers.. it was my long dream to complete a big craft to my personal collection of RC boats.. and started making big crafts mostly above 3.5 to 4 feet span.. but this one is in to 5 feet length, because big is beautiful.. this one is 100% scratch built, and not used even a piece of plywood or balsa.. when completed the hull became stiffer than balsa hull but weighs half than a same sized balsa or wooden hull.. this craft is not a direct copy of MISTRAL itself.. but i added lots of my personal touch in the craft.. the first one is the elimination of the same second Stearn wheel situated at the top of the cabin.. and this craft is fully equipped with modern electronics include the CBW system.. this allow the captain to operate this craft with his day-today laptop as guidance instrument, navigation in all weather.. and for a luxury craft an open cabin is not a safe.. so added two heavy doors to cabin.. still this craft is not detailed fully.. i will complete those with a little time as now i am tied up in some commissioned model projects.. will add the LCD screens in cabin, and revolving seat for Captain with joy stick.. figures are in que and will complete as i gets time.. so here i starts.. so we will find that how easy to make a big beautiful craft .. this craft is not based on plans.. but i used only 3 views.. and scaled to 5 feet...

i started with 1 inch thick thermocol sheets.. (expanded polystrene)..
laminated with marine glue.. with weights.. you can simply see the size of the block as one floor tile spans 1 foot square each..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 10:55:13 AM
after needed depth of tissue started putty works.. this time i thanking to Mr Vinod for the help of putty scribing, and he taught me a new simple way to get a neat finish with putty without adding ample of weights..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...

by using a panel fan drying proses was fastened..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 10:59:03 AM
after the completion of the hull i started making props.. the props made by aluminum sheets from a vessel lid, both designed to rotate each other in phase.. because i know none of any commercial props can beat our own tested hand made props..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 11:00:16 AM
the blade angles were attained by a body of a metal torch and fixed on a 4 mm bicycle spoke..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 11:01:57 AM
i added two end caps of ball point pens at each tip to stream line the prop hub.. for greater look..
and weather proofing with priming..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 11:03:38 AM
now props are ready.. the outer tubes are ball point pen bodies with SS bushes each end..no water leaks and long time of life..fixation on craft..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 11:04:35 AM
used two Monster 550 motors ..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 11:06:39 AM
props are set an agle because of the easy of fixation.. and to avoid any complicated fittings.. so adding a nozzle is a must.. especially when using twin props rotating each other in phase.. to avoid vortex and power loss at high revs..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 11:08:19 AM
shows twin rudder mechanism.. used two carbon fiber tubes attained from a kite kit as i got it as broken.. and two identical servo horns are used to drive each rudder panels via brass rods.. see how simple..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 11:09:23 AM
here can see the simple set of twin prop and rudder systems.. nothing is complicated here...

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 11:12:21 AM
at any angle the panels are uniform.. if not this will act as a brake instead of steering control..

one of the unique feature of this craft is its bow pump.. so this craft can turn in 360 degree from stand still without any main propulsion.. so it is easy to turn.. always.. within her's length.. or half within her's length with reverse.. is a must for big crafts.. easy to control..so, here you can see the prop tube of the thrust pump at bow..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 11:15:18 AM
pump motor.. is reworked 12 volt motor for greater torque than RPM.. simple installation with foam board.. and here is the switching.. means, up to a certain degree while turning, the thrust pump will not come in to play and craft will turn with natural rudders.. but when we apply full stick to any direction, the servo arm instantly arms the switches switching on the pump motor in desired direction.. so instant turn at all speeds..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 11:16:14 AM
can see the simple wiring and motor mounts..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 11:23:56 AM
so, now time to test run.. the first test run with twin RS 550 motors became a great failure.. motors together dropped more than 25 Amps and motors were heating up like heating element of a heater.. instead of propelling the craft.. battery was exhausted within some countable seconds.. so disappointing.. so, turning back to the work table.. and i clearly realized the value of my own works on motor prop combinations.. so, painfully plucked all fittings and made the hull free.. and i realized one more thing that this lighter craft need not two shafts but need one.. the craft weighs about 4.7 Kilograms when complete despite her's sheer size.. and she is not a baby.. but she is bigger to me..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 11:25:44 AM
so.. after some painstaking reworks.. added one shaft instead of two.. and it became 1000% success.. and test runs proved so OK.. so atarted working back.. painted hull bottom with PO red..

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 11:28:24 AM
and after started painting the hull because after super structural works it will be tough to work with.. so, here i started adding my personal touches.. instaed of white i used cram yellow for hull.. and whats a work without our personal touches..?

and the beautiful scene at night... here once again .. see how easy to realize a big craft..!!

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 14, 2012, 12:03:14 PM
all respected Modelers.. by making this craft i never consider me as a hero, or as a master, or as a champion.. because none of us never become an expert or so in any field as we learns more and more as we works.. so, when we realize a craft with success it will be a new beginning for a new idea, new craft and so on.. and this one is not a big work in my list, as now i am working on a even bigger scaled luxury modern ocean liner.. and even more bigger INS RANVIJAY.. so when compared this one is easiest.. but i promise you all by posting my work here is we do not need any complicated stuffs, expensive materials or expensive electronics.. i completed this craft with a mere 1200/-Rs, that it include MP3 player and horn.. so.. hold the inspiration.. and excitement.. make some nice crafts.. when completed one wealthy person is wandering behind me to buy this craft from me.. with that money that i can buy a new car.. but i never sell this one to anyone.. because i love this one to my life.. she is so beautiful.. indeed..

so here is the action video.. the pool is not a good place for her... so will add a good long fast running video when my lake fills up..  :salute:

I have one question Roopesh sir. Are you using normal txrx that we generally use for plane and helis or something different.? The reason i am asking is one of your creation shows dual motors while normal tx has only one throttle channel. Are the both connected with Y servo cable?

thank you Satya..
Dharmik.. i have lots of radio sets with me, and 99 % of all, radios are gifted me by my Friends, Collegues and by some senior Naval officials as they became happy as i completed their boats according to their wishes.. but i never used any expensive radios like Futaba, T6X or T9X with computer assistance, but all RC ying is carried out by Flysky of HK 4 or 6 channel radios.. but sure, i always customizes my radios according to my needs.. here for an example, if you looks once you can see both sticks are at bottom position.. and can see two additional switches are added for further use.. and suppose we have to lit two bulbs with single connection..what will we do.. simply makes a branch.. like that what is the tough side to operate a second motor on our crafts..? if you need various diagrams of motor installations please mail me.. and will send you detailed circuit diagrams..

thanks in advance

mine sharing with us what GLUE you use for tissue ? and what kind of PUTTY and PAINT used ?

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: MISTRAL on February 20, 2013, 08:05:07 AM
What I gather from the presentation is: high density thermocol has been used along with marine fevicol as the glue. Prolly the tissues hav been pasted using the same glue before being finished using automotive putty. Paint is prolly enamel pt sprayed evenly.

Title: Re: its my 5 feet long MISTRAL LUXURY MOTOR YACHT...
Post by: zonuna on February 20, 2013, 07:17:10 PM
what worries me is that the automotive Putty might react with thermocol and destroy it. or is it that the Fevicol + tissue is protecting the thermocol ?

I find it extremely strange that there is another Mistral build on this forum that has been acclaimed internationally as a Master Class build. It is a classic plank on frame wooden build. Forums and groups from the USA and Europe have hailed it as one of the finest RC Boat builds. However, that model and its log never gets bumped up to the leaderboard. The modeller is never acknowledged, he is virtually absent from the forum these days.

20th Feb 2013 - 26Th Nov 2013 - 9 months have passed before I repeat the subject.

Search for it on the forum and you will find it.

Sad.

Roopesh your work is always an inspiration to us. Hats off for the build. But I must agree to what VC sir said The other Mistral is a classic build. It has been build like actual boat by planking strips over bulkhead and keel.
What I think is that any scale model is a scale one, not only by its shape or looks, but the way it has been built.

Not many hobby shops sell rc boat specific parts, you'll have to improvise with whatever parts you can source within the country or order off HobbyKing.
