Title: its my EAGLE EYE.. 3.5 feet long HD fishing trawler...
Post by: roopeshkrishna on September 03, 2012, 11:33:55 AM
Colleagues and modelers.. when i started walk some again, my doctor told me to walk little in daily basis.. so, i was frequenting to my nearest harbor.. and from there i got ample of opportunity, to see and tame many fishing trawlers.. among them one was too huge and was very attractive.. so, i took some self research on it.. then found lots of drawbacks there.. but still it was a nice one.. one of the drawback was the wrong utilization of space.. and every thing was finished as rough just for a sake.. even the instrument panel.. the meters were placed on thin metal rods instead of a panel.. but still she was a huge one.. powered by a 6 liter Ashok Leyland diesel engine, she was too powerful, and heavy.. and speed of her was 7 knots with full load and at optimum throttle.. still no crews were not aware of its makers or model classifications.. still it inspired me a lots.. so, yes why waiting.. so started working on it.. i took lots of photographs from all possible angles to scale her down..

she is a big one as 3.5 feet long, and 11 inches wide at beam extreme, and yes powered by twin motors.. we saw many postings about twin motor set ups and twin rudder set ups as tough jobs.. but here i am showing you all all nothing but easy to do and works perfectly.. and when i started this work, my intention was to operate her for hours, with scale speeds..
she is 100% scratch built, nothing is used as conventional.. or commercial..except servo and motors..
here i started with thermocol sheets.. treated with tissues...

here you can see the ever simplest set ups as two motors and two rudder surfaces.. the motors were taken from the center lock actuators of scraped cars, and it is light in nature, but heavily brushed, with a great torque.. those motors are 5 poled ones.. drops about 1200 mAmps at loads.. so ample of running time.. but i kept the ESC as 60 % by adjusting the DR from TX, as balance power used in a reserve situation..
here you can see the set ups.. the main driven gears was taken from same actuator mechanism..and the rudder arms are pivoted together for simultaneous operation.. at beginning my idea was to add the torque link mechanism, but realized as this craft is light.. so used a standard servo, because of the size of the craft, from Futaba, and joined together with twin rudder drives..

the cabin was made of laminated drawing papers to retain the original metallic look when finished.. foam board never gives us such finish.. all are based on the real photographs of real machine..
