all respected Modelers.. this is my another humble effort to realize one of the classic craft of WW2.. German Schnellboot.. this craft is basically designed on a private yacht.. it is evident in it's structure.. not much in to history, but in to modeling.. these types boats are avilable in kit forms, but much expensive.. and at beginning my intention to make her in to 1 meter in length, but just like my Mistral yacht, it will pose the storage problem.. so, i decided to finish her in to 30 inches, ( 2.5 feet), in length, as i can integrate her with my other PT Boats.. here i am starting from "0", as there is no down loaded plan.. but the entire scaling is done with orthographic projection, (3 view), converted in to 5 portions, each represents 6 inches.. so it is easy to convert in to desired scale.. here i never used any expensive tools, but some handtools, and a driller.. total cost of this craft from "0" to water is Rs 300/- and at beginning i was planned to control her with a toy radio based on RX and TX 2B, converted to drive a brushless and hobby servo.. but because of the narrow hull, i have to reduce weight as minimum as possible.. so, back to professional radio..

the entire structre is by 3 mm foam board.. nothing else is used, but a little paper..

Shnellboot I think means Fast Boat

Happy New Year, Roopesh Bro

roopeshkrishna

can see how easy to make a hull from foam board.. any shapes..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

thank you Sanjay Sir.. sure she is a fast one indeed.. video follows.. :salute:
the distinctive shape of the hull is too evident from any angle..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

for me, to this craft, easiest, interesting and enjoyable part is it's peculier type armoured bridge.. for me it came easy, as i was making lots of Geodesic Doom home models before for science park..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

bridge in to full foam..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

a single center line and nine segments..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

dry check before installation..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

more additions..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

here my intention is to use 100 % scratch things not a bit of specific material or part.. so, the air vent from old scrapped pipe ear phones..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

in to torpedo launchers.. all foam board..an aluminum revet head serves as the pivot head..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

final detailing.. and two rectifier diodes are used as hydraulic link..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

placed and primed.. merging...
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

priming.. and adding the rivet details on armour bridge..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

final detailings.. and fittings..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

adding planks..

and time to install motor and drive shaft.. here i am making the outer casing of the drive tube from a body of a sketch pen.. and bearings from brass bicycle nipples..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

take a 3.7 mm bicycle spoke, and drill out the inner thread of the nipples with twist drill.. make sure the spoke is free inside the bearing..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

cut uot the mouth of the sketch pen and fix the one nipple to the mouth of the pen body.. with fast epoxy..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

repeat this to opposite side.. with fast epoxy, while making sure not spill to inside..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

now tube is ready.. oiling point will add later..

now, fix a long thin pointed round file to drill..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

drill the hull.. make it appropriate with bigger dia twist drills.. fix the tube assy.. with fast epoxy..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

make sure the shaft is centered..and at appropriate angle..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

adding the oil point.. is from the top of the same pen.. fixed and sealed with PSL Grey..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

now with PU putty.. strong seal..

time to make the needed prop..i made it all from aluminum vessel lids..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

and fixation with split nipple..

bend the blades..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

have to add three or two washers.. as thrust..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

motor installation.. here i am not incorporating the water cooling system.. because the motor is 10 time powerful than needed here.. the craft is so light.. so, fixing the motor on a simple aluminum heat sink..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

motor coupling is again from bicycle spoke, nipple.. and cross drilled for the drive lock.. place..

cross lock is nothing but a simple nail...
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

insert the nail.. and can lock it by bending it with nose plier..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

now drive train is installed on SCHNELLBOOT..time for rudder control..
the rudder panel is from foam board..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

as the craft is too light, a 9 gram servo is enough.. simple attatchments..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

full drive train is set upped.. now back to detailing and finishing..

adding the grab rails..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

more prime coats.. water proofing for high speed operations.. good sealings.. means more thin coats.. adding deck sheet..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

the Torpedos...

both spare torpedos are made off some glue caps and appropriate PVC pipe..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

glued.. and adding the contra rotating props..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

now primed.. and all torpedo racks are paper.. and water proofed..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

trial.. and in place..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

torpedo racks are completeed.. and waterproofed..

and i do not know what is this device to use.. but still adding.. from plastic tubes..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

now finished.. and painted...
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

depth charges are made of PVC pipes..

and painted..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

and the torpedos..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

now deck sheet is detailed.. with guns.. and primed..

start to final painting.. this time i dressed her in Dark Ghost grey, is a good tone of camo..stunning all the while..and the bridge is finished in Magnesium Grey..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

adding details.. and plexiglass shields.. and a figure.. with range finder..

still i do not know what is the real use of the hook like studs situated in front of the craft painted in orange..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

I couldnt find a black panther on the craft.. so adding a tiger instead.. :)

and time of reality..  in mission.. in my first test runs this craft behaved so erratically.. because of the narrow hull, she became too unstable.. and wasnt possible to open throttle a while as tends to roll over.. so back on work table and added passdive and active stabilization systems and measures.. then.. woosh.. now she is a sprinter..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

more snaps.. she is a stunning beauty now..
Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

Friends.. i hope my detailed build log may help you to make a boat..
here is the cool action video.. now i can say you, that we need nothing as expensive or extra ordinary to make a craft..

Phoenix.........

roopeshkrishna

be inspired.. total construction time of this craft was 4 days.. and enjoyed well.. and God may bless us to make more crative crafts.. Merry christmas and Happy New Year.. to you all..

Hi roopesh,

Thats an amazing build. I wish my fingers had the finesse like urs to make a boat. (unfortunately my hands are like hammers due to handling heavy dumbells in gym for last so many years...I find it difficult to handle small screws etc).

Keep it up...

roopeshkrishna

Arun.. thank you.. hope meet one day..
Doctor sab, dont worry about the fingers.. be proud.. i was also a body builder, was Junior, and also a martial artist.. but when i works out, was using thick gloves all the while.. especially in hard trainings.. but it is not a problem to make good models with a strong hand.. strong hands means nice precise cuts.. happy modeling.. :salute:

Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional!

FlyingBrick

Beautiful {:)}, what more can I say...
I have seen many models before but never one taking shape from "0" and that too all by hand and locally available materials!!

You make it look so do-able, I think that is what the love for this hobby is all about and undoubtedly it shows here :hatsoff:
To think too long about doing a thing often becomes its undoing

roopeshkrishna

thank you VC Sir..
thank you Flying brick..
and as an INDIAN scratch model maker, i am proud of myself, as Model Boat Website selected my this model as  "boat on photo month"..  a great honor for my humble work..
Phoenix.........

FlyingBrick

wow great ! congratulations ...
what am I missing here  :headscratch:...ohh yes...post a link or snap shot from the mag  ;D
