Sir,

Styrene is widely used in architectural model making and miniature railways. You will get styrene sheets of different thickness in Mohammed Ali Road, Mumbai

Styrene for Miniatures, Scale Models:

Styrene or polystyrene plastic is used for formed plastic model cars, airplanes and boat kits, as well as for scale buildings and scratch built models. It is also used to sheath smaller scale dolls houses and is used extensively in the architectural trade to create building models. It is easily shaped with a thermoforming or vacuforming technique where the material is heated and shaped over molds. When used in sheet or strip form, it scores and snaps easily and can be welded together with plastic glues to give firm bonds. It is not a particularly strong material and will warp in heat and breakdown in UV light.

Beautiful build. Did you use heat forming/moulds for giving the smooth curves?

No, Its completely hand crafted because I did not know all these techniques when I built the model. However Styrene sheet can be sanded easily that makes job lot more easier.

Very nice build..Looks very professional job!
Can the same material be used in making planes? How is the strength of the material as compared to the foam?

Styrene is bit heavy but one can always try with .5 mm sheet. Once you understand the techniques of building, it is lot more easier. I suggest of using heat gun for bending / shaping it.

Attaching image of unpainted model for better understanding.
