"VC is very knowledgeable about RC boats" Giggle Giggle Giggle

Sethji my friend, thanks for the compliment, but after seeing the fantastic quality of Mr. Maharana's builds, I can't help but laughing hysterically at this statement! I have a lot to learn from Mr. Maharana. Bow

I had a long conversation with SB (Mr.Maharana) today. SB needs some help about wiring the 2 motors (brushed) to the Tx. What ESC's can be used on this set up? The props are contra rotating and he would prefer differential control on the motors. I presume he will be using a 3 Ch Tx / Rx.

Let the real experts take over from here.

Cheers!

Hi Maharana,
This is simply superb. I really liked the way the rudders are controlled. I am sure with this can be operated even with a toy remote. Kindly let us know how have you slowed down the rudder motor. Also let us know how were the props built.

Rooster,
if u want to slow down a motor for rudder, like in this video u need to use gear system for motor.
and best ways is using servo!!!!
yes i think u can use servo, take servo open it up, remove the circuit and feedback potentiometer and it will operate as simple motor with gear system, means u have slowed the speed of motor tot control ur rudder!!!!
but to control motion, clockwise/ anticlockwise, u need some different mechanism!!!

I have used gear motor to control the rudder ( 10 rpm), Gear motors are very powerfull due to large reduction rpm from the driving shaft and are very cheap compared to Servo.

You need a DPDT (Double Pole double through) Switch to change the rotation of any dc motor, actually the switch changes the polarity of motor which in turn change the direction of motor.

So the reduction gears are inside the motor case itself ?  It is common to use reduction gears outside the motor, but this is something different and new (at least for me). Can you point to an online reference of the same ?  Or do you pick them up from local stores ?

I think he is using planetary gearboxes. They provide excellent thrust and the output shaft will be inline with the motor shaft. They are available from WWW. BPHOBBIES.COM .

The problem is they don't ship to countries other than U.S.A. and Canada. I have one gearbox for speed 600 size brushed motors which I use in my SPECTRA Electric Sailplane. I got it from a friend who lives in U.S.A.

Rao Garu, the Administrator gets angry  Giggle when you quote US/Foreign Sites without doing your research about Indian sites first. We shouldn't look "far and wide" before we check what is available in India. So here it is, Maharana Sir probably uses a lot of stuff from here. I've also bought from this site, they are very reliable:

Actually I purchase everything in local stores, they usually dont sell these type of products but when i explain them about my requirement they get things from Raipur.

Online store - http://robosoftsystems.co.in/roboshop,
I am in touch with this company to have RC systems, but not purchased anything.

Rao Garu,
Low RPM motors/ Stepper motors are available in every Robotic store in INDIA.
10, 30, 60, 100, 300 rpm gear motors costs around Rs. 150~180
There is a new motor 100 rpm (High torque) is a excellent prouduct, where they have used 25,000 rpm as the drive motor costs around rs. 1000/-

I was little busy last month, no much progress in completing Mistral boat, but learned the art of sculpting with M-Seal, and made some figures to suit Mistral boat.

Maharana,
How did you fit up the cabin on the boat? How have you locked it and ensured that water does not seep in .Kindly post photos of teh bottom of the cabin and the locking mechanism of it.

I am trying to figure out ways to lock the cockpit for my Atlas.

The cabin is not water sealed with the deck, just placed it cutting the piece of deck at the  outer circumstance of cabin.

But in the case of Atlas van line ( I am unable to visualize it ), you do one thing : Make some strips out of bicycle tube, glue it at the lower edge of the cabin. Make some Nut bolt arrangement to fix the cabin, apply white grease / Vaseline when you fix the cabin.

I am checking the plan of Van line, will post some otherway to make it water tight.

This is what I think should be able to reasonably avoid water entering from the top.

Good, you have to apply little Vaseline before each sail.
See all these things are not one shoot solution, need little bit of hit & trial to get a better result.

To develop my skills in this hobby I joined in RCI, now the RCI has become my hobby. Thanks everyone for their compliments on this project, still little modification left in some part of the boat & will post a video presentation of it very shortly.

Thank you Sir & make a frequent visit to RCI.

With these delicate models it is quite difficult for me to participate in some rc boat exhibition / competition other than my home town and if I conduct a rc exhibition / competition here I will get the first prize with no competitors around. It is upto Mr. Anwar to choose a common venue for a rc boat show in India where every rc boat lovers & builders can join.

& thank you VC Sir.

Well Sreekant, you are forgetting one thing “amount of time spend” as well as “Rs” & when we are in rc hobby we are debiting “$”. I have got something for you:
Suggested you to attach a spring in the driving shaft; I have done so with one of my old boat & found extraordinary improvement in speed as well as overall performance of the boat in water.

Everything was right there Sir, except with a poor quality camera & enough guts to sail boats full throttle in the middle of the pond. I am little confident now.  Next time I will present a nice video with a good handycam.

Another Mistral boat video on youtube.com

If you observe the rc part you will find two servos operating to control the rudders as well as the ESCs (Not clearly shown). This ESC is different than what we normally use; it is a servo controlled ESC, speed is regulated by Potentiometer / horn.  I was referring something similar (with mechanical setup):
http://www.rcindia.org/cars/how-differential-gears-work-great-tutorial

To understand the mechanism & the setups, watch this video:

I was just checking the diagram and found something interesting, this boat doesn’t have a rudder & if we opt for a rudder setup, one more servo can be connected parallel to the 2nd one, by a Y – connector.

Hai Maharana, if you are using two props to your craft, its need not to use any rudders to it.you will get a nice 360 degree turn from a stand still ith two screws , that turns in opposite direction.i was making water based crafts from my child hood.you told us that you are using gear boxes to the drive assy.you can simply control your craft by using two micro switches for each motors, with using your two sticks simultaneously to foreard, or reverse.to get a turn , for eg to port side, you can simply pull the left stick towards you and the right to out from you..so your craft will turn instantly within its length.you can see here a model that i just finished with twin rotors.

by using its directly proportion motor controlls it works nicely at 7.2 volts.the two motors was a toy motors, so i reworked on its armature to withstand high temprature during operation.it flies over water...

you can accomplish this control by using two methods..first one ,can use single pole double throw micro switch, and for higher amps, can use same type switches made for washing machines.or can use relays for the same purpose. the second one is that you can simply use the throttle stick for foreward and reverse with speed controller, while the second stick, for left and right..if you are interested to do that i will give you all circuits here with plessure..remember..using a rudder assy to a twin prop craft is a waste...
