Title: My jet boat
Post by: laserdesignman on August 02, 2013, 02:40:50 PM
This is my new jet boat that is 570 mm long 200mm wide
it has a 28mm KMB water jet and is powered by a 26/60 2880KV that can run on up to 5 cell but 2-3 cell is enough after that the water jet drive cavitates

It is made from ABS plastic and modeled in my home made vacuum forming machine

Boat looks marvelous.

i didn't even know something like vacuum forming exist but now i know, thanks for that. its a pretty straight forward process for DIY stuff. Will definitely try at home.

Anybody know about the availability of ABS sheets.

The hardest part is making your plugs and having enough power points that are on separate fuses as the forming machine use huge amounts of power
you need at lest 4800-6000 watts of power just for the heat and you can only run 2400 watts per fuse I put 15 amp power points in my garage on separate fuses
which was costly.
There is a lot of waste to start while you learn how long to heat the plastic not long enough it doesn't form properly to long and you get creases in the plastic the outside weather
adds to these problems as you have about 5-10 second window to to the vacuum form part
if you start with smaller projects first it's a better way to learn like small parts for your boats

@laserdesignman
In some of the youtube video i watched; people using kitchen oven, hot air guns. Had you tried any of these technique if yes which one is better in your opinion or you have a of the shelf forming machine?

For doing boats you couldn't use an oven as you need one 800mm long to bo a boat 600 mm long
Mine vacuum machine is home made will post a few pictures later
heat guns and ovens are only good for small item you need an even heat and the quicker you get get the plastic over the plug the better it works mine has the heat lamps above the plastic and vacuum table straight under neath the lamps so all you do is drop down over your plug
