Can you please give details of the power setup viz., the motor specs, the prop size and drive shaft.

I wanted a good turn of speed, so I thought I would use a brushless motor.

One of the design requirements for EeZeBilts is low cost, so I used the cheapest ones I could find in the UK - typically buying them on Ebay with a matching ESC for around GBP10. They will be a bit more in India  :(   I have two PT-Boat prototypes, and used an EMax CF2822 in one, and a Tower 2410-12T-3 (delta) in the other. You can look them up on the net - I think they are each around 1200KV.  Any outrunner brushless with a KV of about 1000 and an external diameter of 28mm or more should be fine.


All the pictures show a NiMh pack of 6 cells - 7.2V, though I have just made up an 8 cell 9.6v!

Probably the most important thing is the prop. Annoyingly, I didn't leave much room under the back of the boat, and I am using a 2mm shaft, so there was very little choice of propeller. I ended up taking a RadioActive (UK Seller) 3-blade 40mm prop, and sanding it down so that it just fitted, which made it about 33mm. This shifted a good bit of water and gave a good lively turn of speed.  I make up my own drive shafts - this  is about 9" long...

Indeed, she is low at the rear at speed - that is scale behaviour and seems to match the prototype.

The PT-Boat has a wide bow, but it tapers off to a very narrow stern - see the planform below. I think the idea was to cut down on the wetted area as the boat picked up speed. So at speed the small stern sits quite low. If you look at typical sit of a PT-Boat in wartime photos going at speed you will see the same bow-up, stern down attitude. I was actually quite happy that the model matched the full-size in this respect. And when I ran slow, the bow came right down again...

Pretty much any motor/prop/battery combination can be used on the boat, though for speed you obviously want a bit of power.

The reason is that the boat is so light. The basic hull is around 10oz - less than 300 gm. I have sailed it with 7.2v AA batteries at an all up weight of 22 oz - around 600gm, and 7.2v C size batteries at 28oz (800 gm).
