Hi,
I am looking to convert my OFNA MBX Nitro buggy to an Electric version.
After some research some  people on the net have managed this successfully.
They have used a Motor Mount form an OFNA Lx2e or an EMaxx, which has 2 motors but the motor mount can used
in the MBX as well with some mods.

I am still doing my research, I have been able to find an LX2e MOtor Mount in Aluminum for about 30USD, and the LX2e chassis, batttery box, receiver box
costs another 30USD. I am thinking of ordering those 2 first to see if it fits and works and if I am able to mod it to this.

Well, also another thing to note is that the new buggy itself (Roller only) costs 190USD. Hence I am a bit confused as to what I should be doing.
I really dont want to see this buggy just gather dust. But my MBX its an old buggy so find parts for it is not getting any easier, and  the LX2e is new would be easier to source parts. Also I really DONT wanna invest in another OFNA, I am not really racing or anything, if I have to buy a new buggy I rather buy the Vorza.

I have started to work on the conversion thopugh already have removed all the 'Nitro stuff' and the disk brakes as those are really not needed...started the cleanup etc....just reading more and comparing chassis of the 2 as of now...

If anyone here has done any such mod, please give your suggestions, and help.
Thanks a lot.

At $30 for a motor mount, you can CNC mill a custom one for less than that in an aluminium. You got to design the motor mount, though.

Well it was not just for the motor mount it was 30USD for the following parts:
Black Aluminum Motor Mount (OFNA Part # 30675)
Center Differential Mount (OFNA Part # 30201)
Center Differential Top Plate (OFNA Part # 30653)

Also ordered the following:
Hard Coated Chassis (Part # 30676)
Center Chassis Brace Set (Part # 30686)
Battery Case and Receiver Box (Part # 30662)

...so the total was 60USD>

Now I gotta think about the Motor...I am thinking of getting the Turnigy 2100Kv with a 180A ESC.
This combo is way cheaper than the CC Mamba combo.
Anyone here used the Turnigy 2100Kv?
Any suggestions...

So the parts have come in,
And I have been surprised by how easy this mod has been.
Just for the simple fact that it was an Lx2e chassis I used, and only the Front rear GearBox and Suspension,
Centeral Diff, I am using now of the MBX and the Chassis, Battery Servo tray of the LX2e

Initially I thought that my MBX chassis was about 3-5mm shorter than the LX2e and was worried but when I took the MBX chassis out I realized how much the Aluminium Chassis had bent and shortened.

I will post some pictures of the buggy soon, she is looking almost like new Smiley

As for the Electronics, I have been looking at the Turnigy 2300Kv 120A esc WaterProof Combo.
Anyone has any feedback on that? The Tekin and the CC mamba are a bit too expensive for me for now.

Also any place in India to order 1/8 Buggy tires and/or Pinion Gears from?

I missed this thread.

The 120A will be strained in this application, IMO. The HW 120A has been used by many to run 1/8 buggies so it might be okay. Needless to say, gear it down and keep an eye on the temperatures.

Well, the combo was for 80USD 2300Kv+120A ESC waterproof., so thought of taking the plunge. As Tekin or Mamba are about 300USD or more. Just need it for bashing as of now.
Also thought of the 150A esc, but since it was my first conversion went a little conservative with it.
Will keep her on a low pinion so it is not much of a strain on the motor I guess if it is starting to heat.

On another note I have also started work on a Thunder Tiger EB4 S3 Nitro to Electric.
For this though it seems simpler; Have ordered the Integy Brushless Conversion kit for it.

Ok, I have had a few days of bashing. Sorry have not taken any videos.
I don't know wh I forget that it is a 15 Year old buggy, and the plastic parts have gone brittle.
I took it out to a "Track in the making" and over a few jumps,

After a few laps the rear toe in plate which is of plastic broke on a bad landing.
So then I went ahead and got quite a few parts made in Aluminum.
Namely:
1. Front Suspension arms
2. Front Lower Suspension Arms
3. Rear Lower Suspension Arms
4. Front Bumper.
5. Rear Toe-in Plate (Which broke.)

It took me a good 2 days of being at the workshop, first getting them die-casted and then getting the necessary drilling and grub screws for the screw grooves. And I am glad to say they have all fitted well. I have finished fitting them and testing the intial stages, but I still got to put back the tires on etc. am too tired not for that and will continue in the morning maybe and will also get some pics of the entire mod.

Yes the buggy has become heavier, and maybe more heavy in the front and now there are 2 arms in front made of Alu. compared to only one at the rear, but I am happy that it has become heavier in the front, will counter some of the Torque lift of the front wheels on these over powered buggys.
But that I will only be able to post when I take her out to the field again.

I would opt for anything around the 2000kv for the motor and minimum 120a ESC.

Although that completely depends on your RC's final drive ratio, as you'll need to gear the spur and pinion to suit the application

Here you can see my wife's kyosho mp777 1:8 truggy on a cheap Chinese (ebay) £20 motor and a team orion vortex r8 ESC ( rebranded hobbywing )

Its on a 21t pinion, as you'll notice, being a truggy, has a smaller final drive ratio, allowing me to use a larger pinion
