Title: 40 kmph r/c car built from scrap
Post by: AnjanBabu on June 30, 2013, 12:43:09 PM
Nov 2012, I had 8 hours before my electronics exam, I was suffering from extreme rc hangovers and had to get my hands working  on something and this baby is what I built (:|~. All materials used are scrap. Only battery, servos and rx are off-the-shelf. motor was extracted from a broken hand juicer and was rewound to work with 12v, KV rating unknown. Didn't have time to build an ESC, so threw in a switch and a servo to turn it on and off :giggle:. checked straight line speed with a radar gun and it clocked between 35-40 kmph on 3 runs. Unfortunately, the car zipped out of radio range and crashed into a concrete sidewalk :banghead:, never tried fixing it again.

That's pretty cool.

Did you have any damping from the refill in the ballpoint pen or did they serve more of a structural/aesthetic purpose?

The shock absorbers had springs inside them. They did an amazing job for an improvised component, ran the car on asphalt and the ride looked pretty smooth.
BTW, i used bicycle spokes for the shock's piston rod, not a ball pen refill.

This reminds me of 1:12 pan cars, the original on-road electric class.

If you're talking about he black plastic thing glues to the pen shaft? It's something I extracted from a toy, some internal component.
