hi everyone

i am making a model car for iit bombay's sp4mm3r......heres what i am doing.....iam trying to use an aero diesel engine attaching a clutch stepping it down and stuff like that.....still worried about the starting mechanism
has anyone else done that before

iwanna buy some wheels of 10 mm dia ,differentials and drive shafts etc....can anyone help me with this....as i donno any shop in and around varanasi (preferably) or any where in india

You may want to look at how heli engine-clutch-starter setups work.  Your requirements seems to be very similar to what happens in a standard nitro heli setup.  A little online research should give you a fair idea, and let us know if you still need more pointers.

Not sure about car parts sources, the car guys here would be of more help in that respect.

We can give it a shot along as you are ready to adapt your car to use the available parts. Thunder Tiger is slightly easier to source. HPI is also possible, but be ready to pay high. All other stuff need need to come from Singapore/US. Send me a PM and we can chat.

hi Technichie

As a word of caution i must tell you that there are some design issues ralated with using a aero engine for a car. As far as i remember the track for this years full throttle is an off road one. Please keep in mind the following things and take a wise decision if you want to win that competition. This i am saying from first hand experience i had in 2008 when i took part in Full throttle. At that time too we had cars with aero engines on them. So here goes...

Since you will be using a prop to run your car (most probably), you will have to give atleast a clearance of 1.5 inch from the chassis of the car...so the total height of your engine will be wheel radius+prop radius+1.5 inch. This means your cg will be way too high and your car will have a very good tendency to topple at turns...unless you have a pretty good wheel base which in-turn will increase the turning radius.

I think in no way you will be able to match the speeds and turns of the normal cars used there. Also the more complex you make the car more the chances that something will blow up on d day..please also use a prop protection in case your car topples.

And be vary cautious..almost everyone who had a prop driven car at my time..had a cut finger.

These comments are not to discourage you or scare you. Just keep them in mind while designing your car. I hope you take this in positive spirit Wink

   which was d car u bought for tech fest?? wat was d total cost?? am also building one for same purpose..  should i buy a rtr or start from scratch??
any suggestions..

There is another - major - problem when using standard aero engines in cars. They will overheat because the cooling fins are designed for a considerable amount of airflow. Notice how much larger the fins on a car engine are. Maybe some sort of heat sinking will help.
