Hello,
i happened to go across many RC cars. Of the scale of 1:10, i found many cars ranging from $39 to $200. (actually more than that) Could someone list the things that we should check out in a RC car to see it's worth? For eg. kv, brushed or brushless etc. Everyone is welcome  Hats Off

Hi,

First of all, decent brushless systems are more expensive than decent brushed systems. This is due to the fact that brushless systems employ higher quality designs & complexities such as machine design & circuitry. Their power density is one of the highest amongst all types of electrical drives!! But brushed systems have far better low speed control-liability as required in crawlers. So, they do have relevance.

KV rating has little to do with the cost to customer.

Typical scales range from 1/36 to 1/5. 1/5 will be much more durable, bigger & expensive than 1/36.

Then there are bashing vehicles like monster trucks etc & racing vehicles like buggies, truggies etc. Racing vehicles will be more expensive than bashing ones as racing rigs are engineered for precision & high adjust-ability. More R&D, better quality designing, high quality precision parts are incorporated into the production of pure race vehicles.

Additionally, other constituents of an RC vehicle like steering servos, Tx-Rx also determine the cost of the final product.

If you are looking to get into pure electric racing, you will have to go with high end vehicle kits with enormous adjust-ability regarding dynamics of the vehicle, expensive motors & escs, responsive servos, low latency radios (all of them highly programmable).....will cost a bomb & will surely make seconds of difference to your laps (driver's skill still is the king though  Wink )

But for general bashing, not much difference will be experienced between a race bred kit & a non race bred one.

So, we can see that the parts & equipment used to make a vehicle decide the final cost. But this is not all...there should be an 'optimal' matching of the constituent parts of the vehicle for it to perform outstanding which again requires numerous testings & research which in turn again translates to money  Grin

So does it means that a $900 kyosho buggy is twice as good as a $500 mugen buggy? (Price difference also reflects where the parts are being manufactured)  I don't think so. That is why 'optimal' is last but not the least criteria...

Always read posts on forums. They guide a lot. You can figure out which car is worth buying.  Thumbs Up
