Title: Car kit (Build it yourself)
Post by: Divyam on August 01, 2009, 04:51:03 PM
Which is a good car kit to build myself? Other than Baja 5B SS.....

I have everything else (tools etc.) preferably 1/5th scale...

Baja SS is the ultimate and with most detailed instructions , nothing  else comes close as a kit in 1/5

But its really expensive. So, I was thinking about getting the Tamiya Dark Impact buggy. Do you think it will be easy to build for a first times?

Yes, the Baja SS is the best money can buy. You can check the FG kits. If you dont want to spend on the Baja SS, you can forget the 1/5 scales.

The last time I checked Tamiya had the best kits in electric. They are very detailed and have quite simple instructions. The kit was 1/10 scale DF03RA rally car.

However, I was lazy to spend the time. Will get a kit shortly.

Forget the idea to get it in India, first no one will have stock for kits, second it will be expensive. Best to get it from Singapore.

You might want to check with HPI India on kit availability. But doubtful, they mostly import the RTRs.

You might want to import a clone of the Baja SS kit if you are on a budget but then you will still need to use HPI parts. The baja is the most economical 1/5 scale car you can get

So, finally there are no electric kits available which have support in India?

@ Divyam, if you do not want to buy a Baja SS i suggest you go for a 1/8th Savage SS. And these kits come with a K series engine which is much better than the ones you get on RTR's. I went to the U2RM store yesterday to pick up some spares for my savage and saw some SS kits with them.

I think we have a lot of options for the Built it yourself kits like the following are now availble in india

1. Jammin X2 Cr pro buggy
2. HPI SAVAGE SS KIT w/engine
3. Jammin C2 CRT (TRUGGY) pro edition
4. Mugen MBX 5 and 6
5. Mugen MBX6T

I think these are great option to go ahead with for do it yourself kits

BRC, how are the assembly instructions for the Jammin/Mugen. Is it easy for begginners?

The Baja SS kit manual is the best I have seen. Was quite easy for me although it was my first kit. Even has 1:1 scale reference to see if your assembly is correct.
