Post by: stringer.6 on April 09, 2013, 01:57:25 PM
HEY !!!! ;D

This post is happening after a long time ...
Had been extremely busy with work .. :headscratch:

Well i am back and the topic of discussion here is Air filters and What does everyone use to keep em clean ???

I gave MR Muscle a try ...It comes in a orange bottle with a mr pointing his thumbs up

Its done the job pretty well ,,its basically a cream cleaner used for cleaning stove tops , sinks , exhaust fans , anything with oil and grime ..

Also Cleans chromed surfaces , so planning on giving  it a try on my Chrome plated tuned pipe ...

Let me know what you guys use for cleaning ur Air filters and if its a good idea to use this on my tuned pipe ,,
 :hatsoff:

Hi stringer.6
dont use mr muscle(there are many types, some are too strong) on tuned pipes, cleans it though but softens it aswell. instead dip all the pieces in electric cooker and green coolant at warm for 1 day, inside/outside residue gets cleaned.

For air filters, remove them and use hand wash soap and clean them and after that use hair dryer to dry and bring it back to size slightly. or if using race level engines change them regularly

I just use any leftover nitro to wash the filter and then Oil it. The key is to wash the foam from the inside out so that dust is driven out and not inwards. Has worked great so far.

You may consider using methanol (nothing added) through a spray bottle, it should help drive the dirt out from the inside towards outside. Once done, simply let it dry for a couple of minutes. Now you may oil it and use as normal.

I used to use just liquid soap and warm water to clean the air filter. Now I just dispose the filter after 2-3 short runs and one for every race day.

dilute liquid soap is the best, avoid anything else. no need to clean inside to outside or anything. i used to use nitro fuel to clean which did create scratches in my crankshaft near the carb neck indicating dirty intake. :) . best is to change them and go for lucky7 airfilters preoiled ones. amainhobbies.com is your friend for racing stuffs.

Okie folks ,

Later will just try and replace my used airfilters for new ones ..
