i recently updated my sparrowhawk XT with a BL mamba maxx setup.
The car had plastic spur gear which did not lasted for more than 10 mins.
What should i do now....Huh?
Metal spur for this car isnt available but they call it BL ready...!
Wonder if the Brushless RTR Sparrow. XXT also had plastic spur gear..?

I would stick with a nylon spur if your diffs are not steel. The nylon spurs are used in some cars for a reason. They dont transfer the brutal load back to the diffs or transmission. They just get eaten away.

Steel spurs must be used only if your transm/diffs can take that load. I have heard people marketing metal gears like robinson racing etc saying you can avoid spurs getting eaten away.

Unsuspecting users will change and later learn that the transmission have gone for a toss. Please do your research before upgrading.

Most spurs get eaten due to bad meshing of motor/engine.

Hey, its simple, I am sure you know it. The clutch bell on an engine or pinion gear on motor is geared to a spur gear which turns the driveline. The spacing between these two gears must not be loose or tight. The clearance between them is called mesh.

I though Helis have clutches too.

Yes. The paper trick is the easiest way to mesh correctly.

Here's what I do: Align the 2 gears and tighten the screws lightly. Put a small strip of A4 paper between the gears and tighten the screws. The paper should be easy to remove from the gears without tearing. The strip should also have the gear marking like an accordian's bellows.

If it tears or badly jammed, the mesh is tight and if the bellows dont appear, its loose.

It is what we do between the motor pinion and the main gears on helis too, but the common practice is to use a paper that has been folded on to itself (so twice the thickness of a single sheet of paper).

Ajo is right , 90% of the spurs get eaten away because of a bad mesh.

Upgrading to Metal is good if ur transmission can take the load ie  in a savage x you should be fine. So it all depends car to car and what kind of transmission they use.

I think some college students have made metal gears, i can find out if your interested.

Hey guyz it was a bad mesh only , no slipper, nothing else.
Bought new spurs from rotor singapore and tried them with a proper mesh with both tight and loose slipper, and the car was a breeze.
Moreover i had lost the centre bulkhead which i fixed now.
