Hey sreedhar,

Welcome to the world of RC Nitro.. Nitros are fun, at times it can be a pain with tuning. To start of with I would suggest Thunder tiger man.. It has got spares readily available with Modelart, Bangalore. are you planning to Race or Bash?. There is Buggy, Truggy & Monster Truck.. What do you want ?. What is your budget?. Nitro cars start from 15k onwards. Your fuel cost will be Rs. 600 a litre if you buy branded Tornado Fuel.. Choose wisely..

Hi Sreedhar,

You need to tell your requirement / intent on using the car.
What do you plan to do with the car?
What is your budget?
Then I can suggest something that suits your Need.

If you're starting,I would advise you to start with electrics. If you have experience with nitro engines, you can get a nitro. And yeah, what is your budget? And like jayanth said, what is the pattern of usage will your car go through?

For Bashing.. Just stick to Monster Truck, but im not sure u will get anything below 20k in India. TT MTA4 is best option for you..Kyosho Giga Crusher can be bought for that price. There is guy in Bangalore, His name is Bharath. He is sellin the Kyosho Giga Crusher, I dont if it is used or brand new..Can find out for you. Speak to modelart for Thunder Tiger MTA4..

Stampede is 2WD. Do some research on it. I would suggest a minimum Tmaxx. Traxxas India prices are very close to amainhobby+shipping+customs. Check it and decide.

I believe Tmaxx cost more than 20K. I think for that budget, you can get a Rustler in Traxxas or Tomahawk ST in TT

Go for a Tomahwak ST .good car, looks great ,easy spares availability, 1/10 scale, 4x4
will cost around 19k with all the stuff included

traxxas nitro will not be anything less than 25k
same with HPI
Losi not available
Duratraxx not available(some people sell it but no spares)

another car i can suggest is a short course truck(looks much like a slash)
Vortex SS nitro costs around 17k +fuel, fuel bottle, glow driver
does 70kmph, spares might be a pro but otherwise its fine

you can get a tomahawk bx for 15k including everything , nice car, does 80kmph, but low ground clearence and also not at all meant for jumps

traxxas nitro sports and stampede are available for 20k excluding fuel, fuel botle, glow driver
but they are not really good, they are 2wd as well and stampede is famous for its lasyness

BTW you said your budget is strictly 20k, let me tell you savage x 4.6 and XL 5.9 are priced at 40k excluding other things so dosen't makes sense
But savage xl 5.9 rockzzzz, i own it from almost a month now....awesome...

also no point in buying a savage x because the savage xl with  bigger engine is proced for the same amount

Vortex is a chinese clone by redcat. Not even as original as a TT. Dont touch it, will be stuck without spares and support.

custom duties 20%of MRP
all of this goes around 35k,so why not buy is for 40k from a shop in India itself

Customs on personal stuff is 14.712% of invoice value. Dont think Savage is 40K anymore. Those prices were in the olden days. I got a Savage from Tower shipped with all customs paid for 26K....

Check with tritech hobbies, Mumbai for latest prices. You will be surprised.

i think go for savage anyway...moreover its just 8 tank.
some personal tips--

check drive shaft
check for high oil leak from exhaust
look for steering knuckles if they are aligned
check shock damp
carefully check front and rear differentials independentlt.>make sure when you turn one tire on one differential say rear ,other tire should freely rotate in opp. direction but  front tire should not move. if they do, sure sign of abuse

It depends on what you want to do with the car, if you like to race, go for the Trophy, or for bashing and some racing go for the Savage.

I would always suggest new over a used one. You dont know what can go wrong. Even one tank of fuel is enough to ruin a car if not used well. If you have the facility to personally check and verify the condition, go ahead with an used one.

I would say Kyosho DST. I have lots of personal experience with it. Easy to maintain and tune, fast and reliable. Spares easily available thru Harmony Models, HK. I can get most spares for you from HK.

HPI RS4 should be more expensive and Nitro sport is 2WD, but the RTR package is very nice for a begginer.

All based on your specific need. Savage is the best Monster truck on the planet for bashing, for racing its the Traxxas Revo. Revo is also the most complete RTR truck you can buy. For pure size and engine capacity and spares/service support in India, its the S50.

Decide based on your need. PM me for more info. I have bashed/raced the 3 mentioned cars.

My need is absolute for Loads of bashing & thrashing. Having said that it must be low on maintenance as spare time is always a concern. Thats why the confusion.

BTW: When you say "Revo is also the most complete RTR truck you can buy" what does that mean?

Read the PM part latter. Will do that the next time. Thanks

For pure Bashing and Thrashing, close your eyes and choose the Savage. Cars are not low maintainence. You cannot toss them after your done like you do with aircraft. Lots of work to keep them in ship shape. Lots of moving parts. More like Helis.

Guys, dont make such statements. TT is good for its price point. Every car has its issues. Savage is also not issue free. It comes with its own set of problems. I have owned several TT car including the S50, so I dont agree. For Bashing, its Savage.

I wanted to race, so shifted to Revo.

Savage is the best for those who want power for doing all that crazy stuff(like me), but not that much good for on track racing like Mr. Ajo said. But that is definitely not a (-)ve.
one thing i didn't like very much is the 3mm chasis side mount plates, i upgraded them to 7mm side plates. Thats it. Everything is excellent

About the sledgehammer i cant comment because i dont have it, but used it for 2 weeks and it was fun. Has got great power and low end torque.
Quality a litle issue, parts break a little earlier than expected but not as many people think. I have seen people doing wheelies upto 100m and the car going well, people doing nice jumps about some 2-3m high and the cr dosen't breaks or faults even if it lands on its back.
build quality is incomparable to a savage but still i would say better than a kyosho or tamiya or redcat/vortex

You are right Ajo... TT is not that bad.. But I said so coz Manav had asked for low maintance and TT will require more maintanence than others coz as traxxrc1 said the parts beak easily... TT is gud for the price (strictly considering the price) but if you have more budget defenitly go for HPI or Traxxas product.. They have better quality...

Folks,

I think it all depends on how deep the buyer's pocket goes.
Quality is a relative term.
And when you invest so much why not do it a better product though it costs a few bucks more?
