Post by: dhaksha_dx on September 24, 2011, 04:16:41 PM

If I'm not mistaken, you said you had one for yourself? :headscratch:

Eitherway, I wouldn't suggest the trooper. Support is going to be an issue once you start breaking parts. No doubt its cheap and parts are cheap. ordering them from HK time after time won't be feasible...

No offence meant with this question but why would you want a trooper when you have a baja 5T?

Title: Re: Help me in Buying my first rc truck

lol..no.
My tomahawk has done over 3 gallons now, and is in a process of heavy modding at the moment (with some slash parts). Moreover my car has been crashed 2-3 times so is quite messed up and needed some serious repairs.
Himanks' also bought the car at the same moment with me, but hast used it much, and has done only 200-300ml of fuel on his car, and so his car is pretty much like new at the moment and bone stock.

Those HK knockoffs look like they can accept Associated rc18 parts. I am planning to order one for my son to just bash. He is getting old to drive rc. At about 70$ you can't go wrong. HK says parts are coming.

Finally decided to go and buy TT Sparrowhawk XT from Modelart for 13.5k. Is there any advice that anyone would like to give?

Why don't you go for a 'XXT' which is brushless?

Post by: iamahuman on September 26, 2011, 01:41:04 PM
I second ANTA's suggestion. For Rs. 15,000, you can get the XXT. Batteries and charger not included in the price

I finally bought the TT sparrowhawk XT , i didnt buy the xxt because firstly my budget was raised from 8000 to 10000 and then to 13000 so my dad was very angry !!! so if i again ask him to increase the amount he will go mad with me and then he wont buy me anything. but thats OK , ill later upgrade it to brushless system. Moreover i am a newbie and i was quite surprised by the power that the xt had.
Thnks Evreyone who all tried to help me.  :hatsoff:  :hatsoff:  :hatsoff:     :salute:

The 8.4V packs are 7- cell NiMH packs. The 7.4V packs are 2s lipo packs. What is your budget?

Is the XT ESC lipo compatible?

Title: Re: Help me in Buying my first rc truck
Post by: traxxrc1 on October 09, 2011, 07:25:41 AM
No sir.

Title: Re: Help me in Buying my first rc truck
Post by: dhaksha_dx on October 09, 2011, 11:29:50 AM
the esc can handle upto 8.4 volts and the 2s lipo is just 7.4volts

Title: Re: Help me in Buying my first rc truck
Post by: Divyam on October 09, 2011, 11:47:28 AM
But the ESC does not have a LiPo cutoff. You can still use LiPos, but you're gonna need an external BEC or you're going to have to constantly monitor the voltage.

Title: Re: Help me in Buying my first rc truck
Post by: dhaksha_dx on October 09, 2011, 12:00:39 PM
so that means that i cannot just directly connect the batt to esc and run it.

Title: Re: Help me in Buying my first rc truck
Post by: dhaksha_dx on October 09, 2011, 12:02:10 PM
anyones got an external bec , i want to buy one locally

Title: Re: Help me in Buying my first rc truck
Post by: Divyam on October 09, 2011, 12:50:08 PM
You can, but you run the risk of running your LiPo below 6volts. That could permanently damage your lipo.

Title: Re: Help me in Buying my first rc truck
Post by: iamahuman on October 09, 2011, 02:59:57 PM
You need an external Lipo module. Either a buzzer or a cutoff. LRP makes a BEC cum lipo cutoff module... A cutoff is safer because the buzzer can't be heard at all times.

Don't confuse a BEC with a lipo cutoff module. A BEC turns the voltage down to make it safe for the Rx. A lipo cutoff module measures voltage and cuts power off when the voltage goes below the LVC value...
