Planning to scratch build a 1/10 or 1/8th scale rc car, more like a Le Mans style, on-road performance electric car.
Never been around hobby grade cars before and I need some close up looks on a car before I start designing mine. Head Scratching
Any rc car owners in BANGALORE kind enough to let me touch their car? I wont break it, I promise Grin

If you're thinking Le Mans style, you won't find many modern designs since on-road is almost non existent in India.


In 1/10, you need to start off by deciding whether you want to go shaft or belt drive. Most of the competition touring cars are belt driven ones with the exception of the Awesomatix A700.

Here are a few builds of the A700 to give you an idea of an unconventional TC.

The belt driven ones are pretty much similar. Take a look at detailed builds of the Xray T4, Team Associated TC6.1, Tamiya TRF417. That should give you a good idea about the layouts of these cars.

The 1/8 electric on-road class is composed mainly of off-road buggies converted for on-road use with very few dedicated 1/8 on road electric cars.


If you want to look at simpler stuff, the Team Acssociated TC4 is a good example. User "rajathv8" on RCI has one.

I've been wanting to build a proper rc car, one that wont keep breaking down every 10 meters Giggle
Since my LHS, Rc Bazaar has finally updated the car spares section, i can buy off the gears and shocks locally, no import hassle. Grin
And yes, i'll be taking a lot of pictures of the cars I get to handle, i'll share them with you. Cheesy

I just need to analyse the suspension and stering movement and other stuff just get a better idea before i start designing. so it doesn't matter what car, nitro, electric, buggy, truggy, anything is fine.

Layout near ISKCON.
Yes, looks like top notch engineering.
I can't afford CF and CNC fabrication for my project.
Probably laser cut the base out of aluminium and machine the rest of the parts with aluminum and MS.
It'd be great, if we could meet up sometimes.

If you're looking for performance, maybe a FRP or G10 fiberglass chassis would be better. If it's all round durability you want, an Aluminium chassis will do. The CF chassis cars have a chassis thickness of about 2-2.3mm. You can start in the same range and use a thicker top deck to add stiffness if needed.

I was thinking about a solid shaft drive with mono suspension on the rear and independent suspension on the front end. Something similar to the Tamiya F104.
I'm guessing, a solid shaft drive is going to underperform on Indian roads, but me being a sort of noob, I don't want to dream of building something too sophisticated.

Shaft drive is a lot better for our conditions. A belt will get chewed up in no time.

With the Tamiya F104 style of design, you're looking at more of a 1/12 style car.

I'm going to deign the rear drive setup and suspension based on the F140, but build a bigger car than that. Mayb arounde 300mm wheelbase.

I'm only buying the shocks and maybe even the steering knuckles and gears from RCb if it's suitable. Rest of the parts will be fabricated. I'm planning to turn the wheel rims out of nylon, not sure how that's going to work.
Motor and ESC has to come from HK i guess.

What'll you go about the rear diff? They're ball diffs and RCB's cars have a center slipper and front and rear diffs.

You can take a look at the assembly manuals for the F104 to get a better idea.
