Hello all!

At the suggestion of another, here is a thread for all to post comments, pics, vids concerning Associated's new 4X4 short course truck, the SC10 4X4.

To start, here are a couple of vids from a previous thread:

Hate to tell you, but this is for the ASSOCIATED SC104X4.

It has significant improvements over all other SC trucks, that make it a serious contender. Spent quite a bit of time at another thread discussing the clicker one-way. Belt-drive is another, component placement another, compactness of it's chassis another, and the slipper that "disconnects" the rear gearbox from the front drive system yet another.

It is the next evolutionary step in SC trucks. It's a few steps above the Slash4X4, and will be a game-changer.

One thing that hasn't yet been pointed out is the three-piece "slick bottom" design of it's chassis. If the chassis gets cracked or broken, one only needs to replace the section that is damaged, instead of replacing the entire chassis tub. There are also only TWO screws visible from the bottom. While the instance of the chassis ever being damaged in such a way, as to warrant replacement, is slim to none, the idea that the entire chassis need not be replaced, incurring the extra cost involved, is a welcome relief to the wallet.
Also, almost 95% of the fasteners are of the same size, 2.5mm. Same length, too. Wrench swapping will be nearly eliminated.

Yeah, the 3 part chassis! How could I forget that?
But, wouldn't a 1-part chassis be tougher than a 3-part? I don't really know, so just asking!

We'll have to wait and see, what happens to chassis flexing!

No flex. I've seen the chassis, and it's a solid structure. The three bottom pieces make up the skid plate - totally smooth. What makes it unique is that the electronic components are bolted to trays, which are in turn bolted to the three pieces. While this may sound like a lot of bolts, there are places where one would traditionally find bolts, but on the SC104X4, they are solid moldings, no need for them. The chassis is not built like any other, not even the little SC18, which it shares a passing resemblance to.

As for single-piece chassis tubs, if it flexes, there isn't much to do about it, unless there is an aftermarket tub available, and it would be pricey. The Slash is such a design. It flexes, and no one to my knowledge has made a stiffer one, but in all honesty, it really doesn't need one.
Flex is sometimes beneficial. In on-road, for instance, flex is controlled through certain bolts being loosened, or tightened, as the case may be. Some chassis work better with a certain amount of flex, some do not. Certain tracks demand flex, others will trash a chassis, unless it's stiff enough.
The one place where flex is B-A-D, in ALL cases, is the shock towers. It's why so many aftermarket houses make them. When the shock towers flex, the suspension won't work well, and no matter how many adjustments are made, nothing will work. I have seen guys tear their hair out, trying to figure out why their chassis won't perform, and if they only looked at their shock towers, they would notice how wobbly some are, right from the factory. It's easy enough to tell.....just set the car or truck on a table, and press it to the table. watch the towers as you do this. If they move AT ALL, the suspension is not working to it's potential. For off-road, it's critical for the towers to be stiff, because the suspension has more travel than the average RC car or truck. Usually, it will flex, at the top of the shock stroke, where the shock is fully compressed. For jumps, this translates to a bad landing, or a bounce, sending the truck flipping all over the place. I see it in vids all the time.

But as to the SC104X4, no flex. Thumbs Up

traxxrc1,

The Associated SC104X4 is like no other SC truck. This is a totally new design. it borrows certain elements from on-road, but it is an all-new chassis design for off-road. It also has elements that set it apart, performance-wise, that will change the way SC trucks are built.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see another company come out with a design of their own, that departs from the way SC truck layouts have been for the past what....five or six years? In that time, nothing has changed, until now. It's time. The Slash, if you have paid attention, is nothing but a glorified Stampede chassis. The Stampede is over fifteen years old. HPI essentially copied Traxxas with their Blitz. Though Associated didn't copy the formula, with the original SC10 and SC8e, the design is similar enough.

With the SC104X4, they departed whole-cloth. I think it's a winner.

Well, traxxas has a reason to worry. But in India,as long as AE don't make it here, the Jammin SCRT and the slash 4x4 will rule. And lets not forget, its also down to the driver.I'm not saying that the sc10 4x4 is bad but its the driver who counts the most.

Ya.. Mainly because these brands have parts support AND a good staff which is really helpful..
As soon as some LHS starts carrying AE, the no. of SC10 4x4s will shoot up.. But, that's probably because, the owners of AE, Thunder Tiger are already well established here.. So, chances are, No one gonna carry AE products.. Sad
IF local support was here, I wouldn't have thought twice about getting the SC10 4x4.. Thumbs Up

!LOL!   Giggle Giggle

Yah, forgot about those!!  Giggle Giggle

But seriously......If you guys show demand, then all the other points about parts, etc. will be addressed, no?  Thumbs Up

I'd start asking about the SC104X4, and if more do the same, the shop will see his profit frittering away, if he doesn't stock what people demand...or am I wrong about that? It's how it works here, in America, but most shops are "up" on new products, so they would order them anyway.

I'm in on-road, so I have to order online, whatever I get, because I seem to be the only on-roader in my area for at least fifty miles around, so I'm used to being in the minority as far as my RC discipline is concerned.

But as far as off-road stuff, you guys should consider it. If demand is up, shelves should be stocked soon after. Grin

It might be hard to increase demand. The LHS guys must be sure that they will get a good profit margin.Honestly, not many will buy AE because of the price it will be when it arrives.

My dad is WAY more understanding than I thought.Living with me babbling about RCs must be really hard.I started with 10k rs and ended up spending 25k odd.Plus,I am demanding upgrades.I'm gonna start earning on my own rather than depending on my dad.I think I'll mod my slash up to get ready to face the sc10.Good marks might actually get it for me.But if it comes to buying a new car,I would want a rally car,TC or buggy.I already have a sct so no need to buy another one.So what if the sc10 has new stuff and blah blah.It comes down to the driver. So,I'll work on my driving rather than getting new gear.

My dad doesn't like this hobby a lot, but when kit building is involved, he's supported me a lot.. He really loves it when I learn stuff by oding things I like (In this case, building a kit)
Yes, in India, it MOSTLY depends on price.. Here, there are RTR's like the Slash 4x4 for  :Rs:25,000 ... (500$+)
IF the SC10 4x4 does land here, it'll increase price due to shipping, customs, etc.. AND the customs people here are... What's the word? Fickle? So, there's always the risk of importing stuff..

I'd start asking about the SC104X4, and if more do the same, the shop will see his profit frittering away, if he doesn't stock what people demand...or am I wrong about that? It's how it works here, in America, but most shops are "up" on new products, so they would order them anyway.

The stocking part in the US seems to me only because you US guys have a LOT of LHS' in your area.. So, you guys have a choice of going somewhere else, where they stock it, and buying it..
Frankly, as long as HOBBY grade RCs are concerned, there aren't a lot of choices in India..
There are lots of brands available, but they are all spread out through the country..
And, quite often, each LHS caters to 1 brand.. That's actually pretty good, considering the parts support is really good..

Mugen Seiki Rules

The guys at 702 track in Vegas was raving about this upcoming truck. They race plenty of SC10 2WD. This car will certainly make the Slash run for its money. With the Jammin SCRT already hot on its tail, this may come as another blow. But the good thing is most racers are already using the Slash platinum version which has a few option parts.

OT: The experience at the 702 track was awesome. Got to meet a lot of nice racers. See what I caught there. The car that started it all. The owner brought it for about $8 at a garage sale.......

Hell yeah it is.It goes for big money. Also since its the  gold pan version,it must be a championship chassis.

But lets not forget the Losi 10 SCTE.its shaft driven and probably will be better. For more money, the Durango DESC410R is there. Its probably(or even surely)the best SCT in the 1/10 scale.
