Title: HPI SUPER 5SC FLUX 1/5 scale PROJECT
Post by: rdx on December 20, 2015, 12:44:32 PM
Finally started building my hpi super 5SC FLUX 1/5.  Yes it's no more in production and you can't buy it any where in the world. Yet I have started a risky project to assemble all in parts sourced from various online stores all over the international  online hobby stores. Gathered 70% of the parts so far as I await the delivery for the new parts to arrive. It's basically an over grown savage FLUX with 80% same parts used but the other 20% comes from the baja 5SC and some modified parts to make it a 1/5 size. It's a 4wd 1/5 electric sc truck and fits the baja 5SC body and wheels. Will keep you guys updated with pics and followup posts regarding the project.

The sway bar assembly, assembled just now. Comes with 2 set up options to suit the terrain condition.  Right now did the set up for rough uneven terrain conditions. Other option available for turmac or even surfaces.

Dry fitting just to have an idea of its size....must admit, it's huge. This truck is taking shape slowly  as I update you of the progress...will be putting all upgraded parts where ever essential. For the electronics I will be opting for the 2200kv torx brushless motor as it has its unique cooling fins and the castle creations mamba monster X esc set up. Lipo  option will be twin 3 cell Lipo of 52000mah and 50c discharge rate. Servo will be savox high torque SA 1231SG to steer it's big wheels. Will be using a castle bec to meet the demands of the high voltage servo . You might think why not a proper 1/5 scale electronics all around,, well as the truck itself is not that heavy compared to any petrol engined rc, this setup will be optimal for the super flux sc. Some key component parts are on its way from U.S, Will be able to complete 80% of this truck once those arrive. Will update soon....and MY FELLOW RC HOBBYIST  HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU.

Completed the build finally with necessary upgrades installed, upgraded springs on it's way to my place. Received the wheels and tires today deciding on the colour scheme. Planning to go with the white and black combo wheels and tires....FYI , I did a test run with the losi dbxl tires , it's quite an experience. Handles well and yes it's fast......ALL THE STRENGTHS, NONE OF THE WEAKNESSES. ...now it really lives up to its name super flux....

Are you running on 6s or are the twin packs in parallel?

The build looks good. Have fun!

Running 2 3s lipos in 6s configuration...using 50c high discharge rated batteries for that extra surge in power and also esc runs a bit cooler.

6s on a 2200 KV motor with a 1/5 scale is pretty brave. How're the temps?

Yup it's maxed out for this set up but I played with the gearing set up and finally decide to go with shorter gearing for that load sharing. Also the truck is much lighter than the gas 1/5 scales so this set up does the job. To keep the motor run cooler I have used the aluminium motor plate with cooling fins and also upgraded the motor mount, which also has the cooling fins. As for the esc it's the castle mamba monster x which runs cooler than the previous versions. Also I am using the castle bec for the savox high torque  high voltage servo. Doing so helped me cut off the bec load off the esc. Temps seems to be in the normal range as of now. Will confirm with actuals later. Did all my bits to make this truck efficient and powerful. Atleast now it's far better than the original stock set up. With those upgrades installed. And yes it does have a center diff unique to this truck only. It was interesting building the gearbox with that center diff though. Hope hpi installs such a set up in the upcoming savage flux xl....Need to order the the baja 5sc body now... will post the running video soon.

That's an awesome build! But 8th scale electronics on a 5th scale truck? Just watch the temps.

Thank you...:-) and as I mentioned earlier, the truck is light and since I am using some upgraded electronics and parts the truck is running at  moderate temps. Though I keep a check on the temps at regular intervals. Also I am using a shorter gearing to ease out the stress on the motor and esc.

So it's been a while and finally I ordered the last part of this truck.....and it arrived yesterday. Just a comparison with the 1/10 scale slash to give you an idea of its mammoth size body.
