Title: My First scratch built RC Car
Post by: alokhovercraft on February 19, 2013, 11:32:07 PM
Hello Members and guests,
I would like to present my first RC Car which has a custom made wooden chassis. Here's the youtube video link...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlmhwLGlzzU&list=UU05_M1RlbnwwJ6migLb3nzA&index=1

currently I am using a flysky 6 ch. radio, 2 cell lipo, geared brush motors, and a standard servo for the steering. I plan to upgrade the motor and the battery as my current setup is a very low speed one. I also plan to fabricate a body which will sit on top of the chassis.
Your suggestions / comments are most welcome.

I have a question...How do I start building the body? I am thinking of using coro/sunboard... any suggestions?

Absolutely GREAT effort. Seems to generate a lot of torquey power. You may want to build it into a Moon Buggy or a Dune Buggy with bigger tyres.

got the idea... after looking at the pictures, I got an idea how the roll cage will look like...will use 1/2 mm galvanised wire to make the roll cage...will paint it blue... now I am going to mix the looks of a buggy and a drift car... hope it drifts...!

Alok bhai, Why cant you use more rpm geared motors..? or try using brushed motors with single stage gear reduction.. will give you a decent speed... Very nice effort.. The car looks good, make it more good bro.. :)

I am dreaming of making my own differential gearbox one day...I am currently thinking of upgrading to 1000 rpm geared brush motors and a 3 cell lipo...will cost 2500-3000/- more...so kept it on hold... meanwhile, I designed a reverse system as my turnigy brushed ESC does not have a reverse function...Here's a video overview of my RC car when I was testing the reverse system on the bench...

I need some good looking tyres...I need ideas on how to make cheap DIY tyres...

upgraded the motors to 1000 rpm high torque motors. now I get wheelspins!!!!!!!!! planning to upgrade later to 3000 rpm motors so more wheel spin and maybe drifts!!!! woohoo... will upload a video soon...

Cheapest would be to get them off a cheap Chinese rc car you can get around for 300-600 bucks. I had bought a similar car and ripped out the electronics and replaced them with my proportional rc system :P
I am afraid that only tailspins and some short power-slides are all that a rear-wheel drive rc can do :( If you can power the front wheels too, it would definitely drift! Best of luck!! :)

I want to sell the 2 motors which currently power my car... i.e. 12 volt geared 1000 rpm-8kg torque DC Brushed motors. tested only for 1 hour.

Reason- I want to upgrade to high RPM motors as I plan to make a 4 wheel drive drift car....... Price-600/- plus shipping. Pics will be uploaded soon. Here's a video of the motors running off a 2S 2200mah Lipo...Kindly PM if interested.

This is awesome! I need 3 reversible brushed ESC's for my boats. Greatguns (my partner) is busy with his official assignments. Can you make them for me? Please call me or PM me the details.

Regards.

Good build. Sunfoam? Please change the wheels. If need be, buy a cheap toy car and take the wheels off.
