Hey guys,

Its been a long time since i wanted a RC Truck - from an evader st to phoenix st2 now this.
http://www.rcindia.org/beginners-zone/novice-rc-cars-query/

Was hard to convince parents back then. But now after many many attempts - i have my RC. Sparrowhawk XXT!! Smiley

I collected the truck on 15th - it came here with a friend i made recently.
Gave the truck a thorough cleaning and inspection.

Things that need to be done:
1. Should get an Antenna tube.
2. One screw is missing from the motor mount (3x4 BT machined screw)
3. Change connectors - the tamiya ones have become loose.
4. Need to get lipos Cheesy
5. Need to do semething about the opening on the chassis for motor and spur - so that dirt doesnt get in.
6. Need to get some body clips.

I was informed about these before the purchase - deaing with the seller was pleasant.

I wont be running the truck till i fix the motor - it runs now but dont want to risk it as the spur gear may strip cos of a bad mesh. Got a Nimh 2400mah psck with it but no charger.

Thanks to everyone here for all the advice Smiley specially Divyam and Gandhar.

Here are the pics Smiley

No problem man! Great truck Cheesy
1st thing that should go (Actually HAS to go) Are the Tamiya connectors..
They really can't deliver the power needed for BL systems Smiley
You want my NiMH charger? I don't use it anymore anyways Smiley

Looking forward to racing you at the track! Cheesy

Thanks Gandhar Smiley
Yup i pulled it apart for a cleaning and put it back together. couldnt resist Cheesy
I have read the manual and assembly manual also.

I checked on Rotor - they ddint have the antenna tube or the motor screw Sad I really hope ModelArt has them else il have to resort to DIY. Looking for alternatives for the antenna tube already - any ideas? Also do you guys think i can get the screw in a normal hardware shop? Worth a try i guess.

Since im getting the charger from Divyam il keep the connector for a while - will change when i get lipos.
Now need to measure the battery bay and get select a lipo.

As for the connector i was planning for 4mm bullets because 5mm bullets do not have the plastic casing and there are chances for wrong polarity ( i am dangerous Cheesy )

The track is in JP nagar 7.5th phase (some say 8th some say 7th phase Cheesy)

1. ESC - max 60A
Things can get crowded and care should be taken to ensure no wire touches the ESC else it can melt the wire insulation.

2. Motor - max 40A
    IBL 36/33 = Inrunner Brushless 36mm dia 3300Kv
The motor has a rubber cover behind it for dust protection.

    Motors available - 3300Kv, 3900Kv , 4200kv and 6100Kv

3. The motor screw i need is the one marked 3.

On the hardware,I don't know.

Another reason why i bought this - dimensions showed that this would fit in my backpak. This is important for me as i have a bike. Turns out that it is a tight fit - too tight Cheesy. All i need is a slightly bigger bag and im set for the track. Well once i learn to drive that is Cheesy

Mugen Seiki Rules

Get a good set of tyres. These tyres have hopeless grip unlesss the surface is hard packed or tarmac.

Dont go to hobby shop for screws. Just pull out the other ones and take it to a nice hardaware shop that sells fastners. Blue threadlock it when you get them.

Chuck the Tamiya plugs, they become loose, go for deans/traxxas.

Tie the spring cups using wire like this before running, otherwise get the spares ready.

Did that Smiley Thanks for the tip.

These tyres seem quite soft. Will they withstand tarmac?

Divyam thanks for the antenna tube, battery and charger. It fits just fine Smiley

Searched the whole house for screws today morning. Found 2 cerelac tins full of screws. Searched the entire lot. Found ONE screw with fine threading similar in diameter to the one i needed but was 2cm in length. Then used a hacksaw blade and cut it to 4mm length with great difficulty. It  fit but the head was too big so then filed that down.  And finally it worked!!!! The motor is secure and tight now Smiley Smiley

Took it for a test on the road - slowly first then generous on throttle. Hit my neighbours car then drove into a ditch ( quite hard ), after 15 mins on the road (slow Cheesy ) i realized that one shock was leaking. By now the battery was dead. So got it home. Found quite a large stone sitting happily next to the motor - scary! So fixed the shock - i didnt have shock oil so i used coconut oil Cheesy Cheesy . Its kinda fine but not as good as shock oil - will get it soon. Covered the hole on the chassis - completely for the spur and partially for the motor, hoping that the air flow will help in cooling.

Motor and ESC was quite warm but cant call it hot.

Had many people looking from the main road. And neighbour kids as spectators. Haha Cheesy

Pics:

1. DIY motor screw. The actual one is a hex. It is available in a pack of 20 for $7 on tower hobbies.
2. Remaining part of the modified screw Cheesy
3. Cover made form shirt price tag. Made sure that none of the screws are covered.

PS: The shock mod worked! Found a spring cup dangling on the shock.
