RC India

Hi,
I got my first ever RC, and since simple is boring, i decided to build it from kit despite the fact that conventional wisdom says to go with RTR.

Also i decided not to follow the factory silver paint job and go with my own creativity, ofcourse inspired by other car designs.

I came up with an idea and my experienced friend helped me with paint job, full credits to him, without him it wouldnt have been possible.

Also i got a custom wooden stand made for the car, i am painting it with the same theme as car, as i am left with some paint and a lot of masking tape.  ;)

I already bashed around a lot with this car, which explains wheels.

I'll be posting the sketches of the drift track i am building soon.  ;D

I will be buying spektrum dx2s tx/rx set along with aluminum shafts soon

EDIT:- The picture quality is really bad, the paint job is smooth, uniform and shiny  :P and much better than what it looks like

What power system will it get?

I am using Ansmann racing 2000mah battery pack as shown here

but i am already feeling that is not enough, i will probably go for something bigger, but i am avoiding Lipos at this moment due to hassle involved

For pure drifting, I see many using brushed systems. What is your power unit?

I guess we can go for brushed motor for pure drifting(which i am into), as top speed isn't very important, so as long as we can get easy to control slides, i wouldn't mind brushed motor. But i dont know much about motors anyway.  ;D

Go brushless and you won't look back. Instant power on tap ;)

Be sure to do a break in on the motor and lube the bushings on it.

get a hang of brushed motor for drift as of now, later you can go for BL setup

For only drifting, you really don't need that free wheeling type motors. Will be extremely difficult to get into the drift angle. You will have to tone down BL motors. Just enjoy the kit motor. Once you are ready to go straight, then BL makes sense.

Forgot to ask, did it one with the light kit? Looking for a light system.

Yes Brushless give you more Power, but you are the one who is controlling that power so, less or more, depend on how much throttle you are giving to your hunk.

iamahuman you are very correct after BL no buddy will loook back

but for time being you can use Brushed.......Nice Ride buddy

 do not use brushless system for drifting ... brushed motors are the best .. i use brushless for my drifting and hate the bl setup .. its noisy and consumes power quickly and mine gets initial jerks a lot ... brushed motors are better for drifting .. as it consumes less energy and you'll  have more run time as well .. if u have plans of upgrading , do get brushed motors with higher turns(20 or more) as they provide more initial torque required for driftng...

brushless system makes more noise btw and its also harder to control if the bl system is not sensored and also consumes more power reducing drifting time

I am not sure what's going on, but my battery really sucks,
its 2000mah NiMH, but the runtime is hardly between 5-10 minutes, i thought it would give atleast 15 minutes of drifting action, and the last few minutes its not even able to drift, it doesnt give enough torque.

I am not sure what to do, is my battery defective? Is this how its supposed to be? Shall i buy a bigger battery? like 4000+mah

Get a 5000 mAh 2s 30C lipo and a suitable charger. We have lipo basics on the forum. Go through them and you'll be set. IF you'll get a bl system, it will have its own low voltage alarm. If you're sticking with the brushed system, you will need an external low voltage cutoff or a buzzer.

Hold on before you go lipo. I agree 2000mah is too less. How are you charging it? Wall charger?

Friends..using a motor on your land based vehicles, is depends not on the matter of  debate, but depends upon your needs..we all consider the brushless motor is the ultimate..its true, because, all we know, in a brushless motor, there must not be any mechanical contacts between armature and brushes..but, if we use an inapropriate ECM, on any craft, it will be a good wastage of power and battery life..it all depends upon, the wheel size, primary and secondary gear sets, wheel base, tyre sizes, weight of the craft etc..we can change the mode of operation of our vehicle, that the vihicle may be equipped with ECM, or MCM, by adding some electronic circuits in it..so, with such modifications we can alter the power set ups from, drifting, track racing, sand riding, gravel rides..and more, as we can change all adjustmets with the same Tx that we used to control the craft..here is my new race vehicle, just working on it, based on the scale of Maruthi 800, is a drifter, track racer, and also a sand and gravel rider..it is equipped with a MCM, from an old VCR, and i reworked on the motor, twice, to get the optimum perfprmance in all segments..with a mere 2.3 Amps it flies off..it was under rigourous testing and now waits for the body works..so, we can use any motor, with some reworks, and thinking about the criterias for an optimum performances..have some nice drives.. :thumbsup: :hatsoff:

I am using the wall charger for it, it takes 5-6 hours to charge. Also if i do get a lipo, 2-cell 20c 5000mah lipo provides 7.4v instead of 7.2v provided by my current battery, will this damage ESC and/or servo? I know motor can handle it.

There will be no problem if you switch to lipo. The 7.4V rating is the nominal charge. A lipo is fully charged at 8.4V. It might have slightly lesser top end compared to a 7 cell NiMH pack BUT holds its punch for a lot longer and can discharge FAR better than an NiMH.

Like I said earlier, you will need an external low voltage alarm or a low voltage cutoff.

Do you know where i can get it, preferably in Delhi/NCR? or if its available online, i want to avoid import.

And i think i wanna go for lipo, NiMH dies slowly, so last few minutes, it cant really drift as it doesnt get enough power to generate enough torque.

I have to admit, when i started drifting, i was a bit disappointed, because i couldn't control slides at all and i had no idea what was going on, i knew all the theory and had the setup, but like Han said "There's no 'wax on wax off' of drifting. You learn by doin it." that is true for RC as well. Now i am starting to get a hang of it, and starting to really enjoy, small battery runtime is really starting to annoy me. I would rather take the hassle of Lipos if it means longer run times and uniform power throughout the discharge cycle, it is worth it.
