Congrats buddy. :) Nice to see your rc after all that research you did about which model to buy. I like it when people learn about what they are going to buy and then make the purchase - with respect to any product. Let us know what you feel about the vhicle. Waiting for Videos :)

Woah! You are so lucky! How much did it cost?
Wait till it comes outta training mode, and then into LiPo! That will be FAST!

Training mode is mean enough. On race mode,it will be sick. With lipos,it will be even sicker.

I got it for 24,990+VAT(I guess 12.5%)

I'll try to be at the race weekend but as of now,it looks doubtful.

And guys, thanks a lot for appreciating my beast.I ran it on my terrace and I really did not fell that it was a bad handler. The turning radius was quite tight(obviously with 4wd).And I am very careful with the throttle but have had two small collisions till now.I'll get the battery down tonight and charge it overnight. And with lots of stopping and starting, the ESC and motor got quite warm.

Does anybody have any idea at what voltage I should stop running?8.00V?from 8.00V,it charged to 10.00V in 7hrs 30min exactly.SO,should I finish the full 8 hour cycle or should I take it off once the charger has notified me that the charge is over? And will it get very warm if I charge it for 8hrs plus?(I hope not because it is a slow charger afterall)

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: Divyam on October 26, 2010, 08:46:58 PM
DON'T charge overnight.. Its common to all types of battery (I think) ..
Take it off once the charger asks you to.. Not too sure about this stuff though..

Here is the running video from my terrace.I was driving and my dad was filming. The video is from an N95 so spare the quality.I used the throttle sparingly and it was on training mode.Better videos coming soon.

I just have a doubt. When I roll it freely, there seems to be a slight noise. Is this normal or is my mesh set incorrectly?

My brother and I keep doing time runs and he keeps winning.I am a wimp on the throttle. Can you give me some tips to race better?I know the 'racing line',anything else?I have already had around 10 crashes on my terrace and these are the big ones.I've had small touches too.

Put a mamba monster on it and you can handle it better  :giggle:

BTW nice car man

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on October 29, 2010, 08:40:28 PM
I find the slash quite powerful at full throttle on training mode with NiMH even without having fully conditioned the pack 8-).Wait till I get my lipos ;D.A Mamba monster would be way too much for me to handle right now. :)

Thanks for the complements Vinay :)

what max speed can we expect on lipos?

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on October 29, 2010, 08:43:25 PM
My brother and I have two types of races. In one,we just put a pipe on our terrace and do 3 laps around it with 2 practice runs before it.every touch adds a ten second penalty. One more is a figure of '8'course.The same pattern runs with it with 2 practice runs and one main event with 3 laps in all the runs with penalties for crashes.

My brother is liberal on the throttle while I am a total wimp. :banghead: :banghead:

Hey buddy take it for a spin on a larger area :) Guess you need to get used to the vehicle. Like how a person takes a while to get used to a new real car. I took a long time to get used to the santro during my license test - i failed :D

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on October 29, 2010, 08:44:51 PM
Traxxas says it can do 35 mph with stock gearing on the stock 7 cell NiMHs.I am guessing atleast 50mph with 2s 5000mah 30C lipos.I might be wrong. If I am,please correct me.

Try sunday early mornings. Playing grounds should be free early morning. If you have any school groung nearby take perm from the authorities to use it early Morning. I doubt they will have a prob.

I wouldn't mind being asked questions by you.You must know most of the answers already. ;D

There are some people who get irritating after a while. And since I look 'unnaturally fair',the next question will be,"Which country are you from?".My answer varies from "Africa" to "Antarctica" :giggle: :giggle:

And I hate crowds.as they say,'Two is company, three is a crowd' :giggle: :giggle:

No way 2S LiPo can make it upto 50mph
Only with a 3S and higher gearing you can run it upto 60+mph
what max speed can we expect on lipos?

I a m  very very sure I can give you a idea
8.4 V Ni-Mh 3000mah = 35mph  (STOCK GEARING 13/54)
8.4 V Ni-Mh 3000mah = 40mph  (pinion 18T 18/54)
2S 5000mah LiPo 40C = 35 mph (STOCK GEARING 13/54)
2S 5000mah LiPo 40C = 45 mph (19T pinion 19/54)
3S 5000mah LiPo 40C = 45mph  (STOCK GEARING 13/54)
3S 5000mah LiPO 40C = 60mph  (19T pinion = 19/54)

No one has ever asked me to let him drive my car, but ya, the most common question is HOW MUCH IS ITS RANGE?? HOW MUCH DID IT COST?? WHAT IS ITS SPEED?? DID U BOUGHT IT FROM INDIA ONLY??

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on October 31, 2010, 05:56:40 AM
@Rajath   No upgrades planned yet.Major ones(lipo) coming after my exams. My bro doesn't make for the greatest company.I would prefer a friend.my bro is always like the big guy telling me what to do.I've researched rc for 6 months not him :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:.And he is too adventurous with the slash.on the terrace,he hits full throttle and hits full brake and tells me how well it stops. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

@Divyam  My slash can crash.I've had about 6 small touches and about 5 pretty big collisions and the slash just walks out of it.My brother has already driven it.At first,he was skeptical. He wanted me to go for a PS3.Now,he loves it.But that starts a problem.SHARING.......I hate to share >:D >:D...especially with my brother.

@Arpit  Thanks for the speed chart :).I really doubt how long I can even keep up with 50mph.the stock one is fast enough.Either way,on track,3s would be useless :).

@Arpit  .the stock one is fast enough.Either way,on track,3s would be useless :).
might sound useless for u right now, but once you get used to it, u will starve for a 3s performance

Hey one question. While buying the slash dp you get to choose which body(paintjob) you want?

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on October 31, 2010, 09:15:35 PM
I couldn't.But I guess that you can do it in the USA.I guess not.You can ask Jayanth to get a specific body I guess.Never thought of asking him about the bodies either.

You have to come out and drive on a track. Playing on your terrace will get you no where and will damage your car.

Pitstop is your closest place till the new track is up.

Oh man!! You guys need to have a track nearer to where you live. How is the traffic there compared to Bangalore. The traffic in Bangalore sucks. And I am saying that just by sitting im the front seat with my dad.Wait till I start using expletives about the traffic when I begin to drive. >:D

Bannerghatta Road?   :o

@Ajo,
Woe, requires some commitment towards the hobby to do that!

@Gandhar,
That's why riding a cycle/bike is a faster way to travel in Bangalore! TERRIBLE traffic from a cycler's point of view..

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4

Very true divyam - i use my cycle for anything within 6 kms radius.

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on November 03, 2010, 04:37:06 PM
I will be a prick on the roads. My dad doesn't allow me to ride anywhere too far because I have no consideration towards other guys on the roads.I just cut someone off.And also,I am too afraid to get out due to a fall I had when I was 8 years old.Call it 'post traumatic stress disorder'.Just an excuse for me not to ride my bicycle again. The traffic is bad from anybody's point of view.

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: Siddharth on November 09, 2010, 11:21:14 AM
@iamhuman - You will damage the car a lot less if u drive on the track. pitstop is a great way to get into racing. Try to make it for the RCINC nov 27th,28th.

i would suggest u check with jayanth about the upgrades, get urself the proline undetray, chevy silverado body, caliber or bow tie tyre setup.

@arpit - I would suggest 2s for track use as the traxxas esc doesnt allow multiple settings like mamba. All of us use 2s or 4s for racing applications and 3s or 6s only for straight line speed.

I would agree with Ajo, we drive to panvel every sunday to drive on track. So u should consider urself lucky.

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on November 09, 2010, 07:27:19 PM
I cannot make it this year but I will be there next year.Jayanth already briefed me about the upgrades. The tyres will bea sureshot change but I might pass on the undertray.I will make do with the 'tape mod'.For the tires though,(I haven't asked anyone yet)what compund would be good on the Bangalroe track(Pitstop)?

Anyways ,thanks for your suggestion Siddharth.

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: Siddharth on November 10, 2010, 11:10:06 PM
Look at getting the M2 compound for now. I was running that on the Vorza and D8 for the pitstop race and it seemed like a good choice. Plus the tyres last a decent amount of time.

This is a video of my brother and me running my slash on the terrace.I know it is not much, but this is how we are practicing our cornering.Once my tests are over,I will take it out on a bigger field or something.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv9MmX1tn0g
(My brother driving)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSA0q-zEn_k
(me driving)

From the sound of the motor, you guys can tell our throttle pattern. My brother was quite mild that day.And also, can you guys tell me how to improve my driving and if the is anything wrong with my gear mesh?(Or is the noise ordinary). We took this video by placing an N95 on the bumper and fastened it with rubber bands.

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: rajathv8 on May 10, 2011, 09:54:33 AM
From the video i noticed that you keep applying throttle and releasing. Not good.
In real racing the rule is "never let go of the throttle till you know you know that you wont have to use it again". Guess you would have seen this in TG :D

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on May 10, 2011, 10:15:35 AM
That was long ago man :D .Now I'm crazy  8) .

And throttle control for full scale on road racing and 1/10(more like 1/8) scale racing is different. We've to figure out where maximum traction is found and go according to that.Plus you always have the racing line.

The video makes my driving look bad.It was bad ;D.My driving has improved since those days.Actually,I was coasting through the corners. Now,I power it through the corners.Result:powerslides  ;D and ultra fast cornering ;D .With lipo power,it will be even better(and more difficult). ;D

PS:You can see me starting to get on the throttle at the exit of the corner,The power should come on at the apex. Also,my throttle pattern was nowhere near smooth. My brother was WAY better there.(probably even now.PRACTICE!!!!)

What do you mean by behaving wierdly?

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on August 27, 2011, 10:43:58 PM
Two of them are rebounding and compressing the way they should. The other two aren't behaving as expected. I suspect an air lock in both of them. Will open them up tomorrow and remove all the air.

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: rajathv8 on August 28, 2011, 09:58:00 AM
It can either be air-lock or too much oil. When compressed fully (without spring) the rod should push itself back by 2-3mm. If it does not push out you have too little oil. If it does push out too much you have too much oil inside.
Which shock oil are you using now?

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on August 28, 2011, 02:37:08 PM
I'm using Losi 40 wt all round. Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out and let you know. But two of my voodoo pistons aren't working the way they should be. Your tip should work with regular pistons. It feels like an airlock. If getting the air out doesn't help, I'll remove a little oil. If that doesn't work, it means my piston isn't put in properly.

I got the hex that was stuck in the wheel out!!! Not sure if the wheel is usable.....

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: rajathv8 on August 28, 2011, 07:25:35 PM
Its better to check the piston setup first thoroughly. Then debug oil or sir issue :D

The hex was stuck to the wheels??

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on August 28, 2011, 07:28:47 PM
The hex was stuck in the wheel and I didn't realize it during the race. Kept running it and the hex melted inside the wheel :o

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: rajathv8 on August 28, 2011, 07:34:56 PM
Was this with your truck alone or are all traxxas slash wheels stuck to the hubs?

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on August 28, 2011, 08:05:40 PM
Only mine. This happened to the rear wheel during a cartwheel. And since a greater amount of power goes to the rear, the destruction of the hex was accelerated. This is how it used to be. Will post a pic of it in its present condition later.

No RC till I get some new shock oil :(. Opened my shocks to see why they had no damping and saw that my lower E-clip had come off and the pistons were sitting at the base of the piston :o. That explained the ZERO damping. Had to remove all the oil in that shock to find out what was wrong with it. Till I get some 40wt oil, no RC'ing :(

@Ajit: During one of the numerous rollovers, it must have come off :D. For a replacement, Traxxas offers aluminium hexes but they cost a bomb compared to the plastic ones. I think you can buy like 8 plastic hexes for the price of 2 aluminium ones. Its a no- brainer there. The stock size is 12mm if I'm not mistaken. You can get a 17mm adapter kit and use buggy wheels and tires too. Jayanth's friend drove his slash after the addition of swaybars and he said that they made a HUGE difference. Jayanth said that he had almost zero rollovers. I'll know more once I hit the track.

@Rajat: No tornado for me. Will pick it up from Jayanth.

ok. i might be sounding stupid here. but i can understand an MT rolling over because of high COG. but i did not know that SC's can rollover too.

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: rajathv8 on August 29, 2011, 10:58:21 PM
Ajith the slash has the diffs lower than the chassis. The motor , battery and ESC are quite high and this adds to body-roll. I was watching videos about the slash yday and they say the biggest flaw in the slash is the raised chassis.

thx for that rajath. did not know about it.

so the only way to solve the rollover prob is with swaybars like iamahuman suggested or is there an aftermarket low CoG chassis available??

There are aftermarket upgrades available. But they set you back by $$$$ :(

I'll buy some loctite on the way home. I might change my motor's plugs to 4mm ones and run the SC8 or will have to wait till I get the motor...

Post by: iamahuman on October 06, 2011, 06:51:40 AM
Nope :( Couldn't find loctite anywhere. Went out in a " How hard can it be?" state of mind. I asked for " loctite", " Stuff that comes in  a red bottle", " Stuff that you put on a screw to make sure it never backs out" and got the " This guy is crazy" look ( at 2 hardware shops and 2 automotive supply stores) :banghead:. Will have to search again today. Should start today. 4mm bullets on the way. I was kinda lazy to go over to RC Bazaar to get them and its pretty far from my home. I'll be converting my vxl esc and 3500 Kv motor to 4mm plugs so that I can use the motor with my SC8 and the vxl. Once I get my motor, The vxl will be a spare. Might sell it. I'll decide on that after I get the new motor. Possibility of a race this Sunday. Want to be prepared for it. If not this Sunday, I'm pretty sure we'll have a race on the 16th. I've heard that the Chennai guys will be invited as well....

Are you going to use permanent locktit - red?

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on October 06, 2011, 08:14:48 AM
Yup.

The manual suggests red loctite. I mailed the guy who makes the chassis and he said....
Quote
When you consider we're powering a 6lb vehicle with gobs of torque/power
to do disproportionate speeds and airtime, the red stuff isn't as
permanent as it seems.  It will eventually shake loose.  The red stuff
creates a dampener affect between the hardware and aluminum so when you do
remove it, then you can determine if more needs to be added or not (like
the pinion gear set screw spinning at 30,000rpms.  Power scale probably
equals 8,000hp in a pickup truck which can shake the fillings out of a
Dentist!  When a helicopter takes an impact as the shortcourse trucks do
every 5-seconds of use, they only have to worry about salvaging parts.  In
short, red is not permanent in a short course RC truck.

I asked him twice to make sure and he said that I should go with the red stuff. If anyone is planning to get this( chassis) and is on the fence, I suggest you go ahead. The guy( Mark) is extremely helpful and very kind.

have you thought of any mods of your shocks? How high can your car jump w/o bottoming out..?

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on October 07, 2011, 09:42:42 PM
Mods are TiN coated shock shafts and Al shock caps. I have no idea how high it can jump without bottoming out. I use fuel tubing as a bump stop. With this chassis, they become more of a necessity. The is one big jump at pitstop. I won't go too fast so that I just jump it and not have it jump like a 1/8 buggy :D

This is turning out  to be pretty tough.  The inner race of a bearing is stuck on the steering post. I'll use a soldering iron to expand it.... :banghead:

PS: It turned out to be useless. Need to figure out what to do... :banghead: :banghead:

PPS: Blew that bearing. Anybody with a 5x8x2.5 bearing? I need one. Maybe I'l use a power tool or something to cut the inner race off the steering post. This is a bad problem :(

Where did you buy "green" locktit from? Read online that green is thin consistancy and used to secure screws that are already in place.

You can check here:
http://www.rcindia.org/for-sale/bearings-of-all-sizes-6402/

was it glued or something? Post a pic if possible :)

Got the loctite.

I'll post a pic as soon as possible. I'll cut off the race with a hacksaw blade, get a new bearing, sand the steering post down and then install the bearing. I forced it a little too much...

PS: I asked the dude but he said he didn't have the sizes we use in cars....

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4

Kinda good news. I've got 10 bearings on their way to my home. Should reach me by tomorrow or day after tomorrow. The build shall resume. Once I get the steering rack in, I don't foresee any problems. It should be as simple as mounting the front and rear diffs and arms and stuff like that. Then, I'll have to put the motor mount on and the top deck with the servo. Rest of the work will be electronics. I'll fill my shocks at the track :P

Till then, here are some pics of it in its disassembled state.
Bare chassis. Once the whole kit is built, I'll put the sway bar back on...

The bearings are here and the steering is sorted out ;D

Time for the front and rear gearboxes. Sorry but I won't have any more build pics because the camera isn't at home now.

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on October 12, 2011, 05:14:29 PM
The chassis is ready for the most part. Electronics and motor are yet to go on because the ESC('s) and motor are waiting for 4mm bullets. Once the soldering is done, I should be able to finish her up minus the shocks. they are waiting for oil.

Anyways, 2 problems. One slightly big one and one not so big one.

Lets get the bad one out of the way. The front diff is binding like crazy. Need to find out why. I'm pretty sure its something between the bevel gear and the input gear. The diff itself isn't binding. The  not so bad news is that I stripped a button head screw on the top deck while fastening the steering posts. I can turn it into a phillips head screw easily ;D

Anyways, once the binding issue is sorted out, she's ready to rip!!

PS: Most of the binding has been removed. The gear mesh was off. I opened the front diff cover and tried over and over and finally got it to line up properly. Its not butter smooth but its pretty smooth. I doubt the vxl on the SC8 will have trouble powering my baby. ;D

So, mechanical problems have been solved.( Kinda. The diffs are a little noisy because there is no lube on the ring gears :P). I hope they stand up to one day at the track. And got to test my front wheel bearings' performance out. They are AWESOME!!! So, once all the soldering is done, she's ready to go to the track......

I've got her all built up. All that is left now is to bind the Rx to the Tx and fill my shocks up. She's ready to go!

I shimmed my rear diff after I built it all up. It makes a pretty big difference in the drivetrain. It feels quite smooth now. There is a slight tightness at some point but I don't think it'll hurt. Here are some pics of how I did it and my built up SSC LCG Slash 4x4.

Shims in.

After shimming. I might have to tape up the exposed area to keep it dust- proof.

The Rx cover will go on after I bind the Rx to the Tx. Wiring is a little messy now. Motor wires are too long for this. I wouldn't worry about the added resistance. I'm changing my motor after a while.

Why did you change the ESC...?

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on October 18, 2011, 07:03:44 PM
More power ;D

The stock motor produces quite a lot of power for a motor of its size. The ESC is good but may not be enough at times. To accommodate the additional weight, I upgraded my ESC. It can handle 1/8 motors in 1/8 applications so its going to be good in the slash. It will seem like overkill with the motor I have now. Once I get the other motor I've been thinking of, this ESC will make everything great. Its equivalent to the MMP. It doesn't have the throttle curve and brake curve adjustability but its got other setup options that the MMP has. It can handle 4s whereas the MMP can handle 6s. But, it doesn't have BEC problems like the MMP has especially when you go to higher draw servos.

And it actually helps the motor produce more power. I've had one guy tell me that just changing the ESC made the car feel like it was running the stock setup on 3s when he was on 2s. As of now, the stock ESC will stay as a spare. Once I get the motor, I might sell the stock system.

I just tried the ESC out with an NiMH that is close to being flat. It did feel like it was more powerful and had more grunt. I can't wait to try it out with the LiPo.

nice progress. havent been online for a couple of days. dumb movers truck snapped the overhead internet line  :banghead:

and nice detail on the pics.

The chassis is really awesome. Superb structural strength. I've been in contact with the guy who made it and designed it and he knows his stuff. Its got flex built in where its needed. The top deck is just awesome. The fact that everything is as close as possible to the center helps as well. People have reported tons of steering with this. Looks like my dual rates have to be turned down.
Thanks for the compliments.

We'll do that :)

Divyam, I'll ask Joe if we can have the race this Sunday...

PS: I shimmed the front and rear diffs properly. The shimming I did yesterday was wrong. I had my spur gear aligned improperly and that necessitated huge shimming. I was told that one piece of paper from a Traxxas parts bag would do the trick. I opened the front and rear diff cases and shimmed them again. Now, the drivetrain is pretty smooth.

I found a slight problem. My front diff has basically no oil in it :o. One more thing to take care of at the track. Divyam, I'll need your help at the track when we meet.:)

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: traxxrc1 on October 19, 2011, 05:12:46 PM
Dude, pls explain the main motive of shimming, i just cant get it right..! Everytime i open the diff's case, i can barely manage to realise their use. And BTW how to shim the and what effect  can be seen? Is it for pure racing??

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on October 19, 2011, 05:27:29 PM
This is a slightly different kind of shimming. Inside the diff, the spider gears may not align very well with the bevel gears. Shims are used to put them close to each other. They can also be used to remove the play inside the diff and diff case. I shimmed my diff case to space the input ring gear and the bevel gear on the diff. In the slash 4x4, those two are too close to have a good mesh. When you put a shim in between the bearing and the diff case, you space the diff from the ring gear just enough for it to have a proper mesh. This kind of shimming is mostly seen on the slash 4x4.

And shimming isn't only for racing. It can make your diffs last longer and your drivetrain smoother which leads to better runtime( in nitro and electric) and you can expect slightly cooler temps on the motor.

Well, took her out for her maiden on my terrace. I had to change my battery adjustment block to fit it in. It was set for my lipo. I took it out knowing that the LVC would kick in in a few seconds. Ran her for 10 seconds and it did happen. Came back to my room to turn the LVc off. I went into what I thought was the program menu but went into the calibration menu 8-)...

I turned the radio on and the ESC went to full forward!! :o I was shocked and started it again to get the same response. I was about to ask someone what to do when I realized that I should try to re- calibrate it and start again. And it worked. My neutral point was full throttle and full reverse :P I won't be running her now but I will once I get back from college. Lesson learnt, " Program" your ESC and NOT re- calibrate it.... ;D

For the 1 seconds I drove for, it drove pretty well. It felt very stable and nimble. NO body roll AT ALL!!! :o

But 10 seconds won't say much because my setup wan't right.... I'm looking forward to ripping the track apart.....

what u talking?? Vin Diesel lives his life 10 seconds at a time  :giggle:

10 seconds is all u need.

anyway its nice to know the monster is up and running.

Hahaha I'm not Vin Diesel by a long shot.

I did realize that my front shocks are leaking :(

I'll take them apart tomorrow and see if it helps. If it doesn't, I'm going to replace the O- rings. But I'm not too worried about the leak. It isn't leaking like crazy but it is leaking through the bottom which leads me to think that it might be busted O rings...

EDIT: I think I fixed it. I greased my O rings with lithium grease. The whole assembly is smoother. I'll fill my shocks tomorrow and that'll tell if everything is okay....

So, I ran it on my terrace with the NiMH with the lipo cutoff disabled. The power was..... scary to say the least. I heard some weird kind of grinding from the rear but I'm not going to worry too much about it. I'm awestruck!! It is very stable and responsive.

The handling is just...... epic. Pretty much zero body roll. It's very responsive and drives superbly. It is going to be way more fun on track.

All my wires were slightly warm... :-\ I hope it has nothing to do with bad solder joints. Maybe they felt warm because my hands were cold :D I hope it is something like that.

Not really related but I thought I'd post it for the laughs....

I remembered I had a permanent marker lying around and found some of that adhesive paper.... Outcome....?

To make sure I don't go mad at the track when the ESC cuts off...

Drove my slash today. I was just :o after the first few minutes. It's a whole new beast compared to the stock one. The power even on NiMH was astonishing! And the handling even with a slipper was just incredible. The stability was epic. I could control the slides. It's gonna be real fun on track.

The steering looks great. That LCG kit must be GREAT for handling :)
Apart from that, did you see much of a difference with the new ESC, considering  your only running on NiMH?

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on January 02, 2012, 07:46:32 AM
@Rajat: Thanks man.

@Divyam: Thanks dude. It did feel like the power was more. Now, placebo effect or not, it felt powerful. The ESC added 15 degrees of electronic timing so the added top end is true. I personally like it WAY more than the VXL- 3s. The braking is so smooth. I had the brakes at 25% at that time. I like it that way. Punch control was at 7. I don't want to crank it up to 9 unless it's necessary. The kit is EPIC! Flat out THE BEST upgrade I've got.

This is going to be superb on the track.

It's been long since I updated this thread. The car hasn't got anything new.... yet.

Here's a video of me racing it at Chennai. It's on the slipper so it will handle a LOT better with the center diff that should be on its way to my home. I did a few stupid things on that day. I had super stiff sway bars in the front and that was a mistake.

The newest addition to the family. A radio that'll serve me for ages.
A new radio has been on my wish list for a long time. I'm generally right handed but when it comes to RC, I'm left handed. I had to hold my old radio in a weird way to make it work for me. This one can convert over for left handed use and as you can see, it's already been done. I have a separate Rx for my simulator.

Thanks. It's pretty much the best radio out there. Up until a few months ago, this was the choice of a huge cross section of RC racers. If you look at videos or pictures of drivers' stands, you see these in the hands of many guys. There's a reason Sanwa says their products are "The choice of champions". ;D

This radio has been epic!

I've been using it with VRC Pro for a while now and I'm certainly faster with the left hand conversion. I might not have the outright pace that I managed once in a blue moon with my old radio but I'm at around 95% of that pace but with tremendous consistency.

I've found this Zen like peace while I drive and it's amazing.

Here's a report of my runs at a track on VRC Pro. My best run ever on there has been 17 laps in 5 minutes and 5.xyz seconds. (The fastest guys run 18 laps in 5 minutes and 9 seconds or so. They drive super aggressively and the game rewards this but it's not my style).

Like you can see, the runs are pretty much successive and the times are fairly consistent.

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4

Even if it was there i'd not go there as often as it may be needed for the owners to keep it profitable. April may not be possible for me to meet up, but will surely catch up in May.

I've decided to go the electric way as well! I'll sell the Revo and get a used Slash or I'll just throw the 3.3 and get a Mamba Monster !

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4

A truggy convert to a MT is better option and the latest trend ,some are converting their buggies to MT.

RC8t MT ,LOSI 8T MT and ST-1 and other truggies converted to MT by putting bigger tires  like the MT4-G3

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: iamahuman on March 01, 2013, 09:47:40 PM
^^ Hellfire makes a great point and I agree with him. The terrain crushing ability of MT tires with the handling of a truggy makes sense.

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: Tassem on March 02, 2013, 11:46:23 AM
Hmmm.. but the MT tires would take a lot out of the handling dept. These tires have soft flexing sidewalls and act almost like an additional set of shocks. They're quite heavy too.

However if we can find MT size tires that are slightly narrow, those would be great for handling!

Having said that, I'm a sucker for large tires!! I keep imagining what the slash would look like with the savage tires :D But I need a 17mm hex conversion to try that. Not to mention proper gearing.

Title: Re: My new Traxxas Slash 4X4
Post by: hellfire on March 02, 2013, 12:10:18 PM
Obviously putting MT tires to a nitro powered truggy will make the truggy under powered but if you have a electric brushless truggy it has the torque to make even MT tires look like dish plates. But the drivetrain should be designed to take such a beating otherwise you will ruin it with premature wear and may even snap the CVD.
But with truggies like RC8T/ST1 ,Losi 8t people are having a blast.

The handling won't be as good as a truggy but you can bet that its hell of lot better then a dedicated MT.

Sadly, the track at Bangalore has been out of use for a long time.

There was one store that dealt with Traxxas products but it seems to be down. You can get batteries at RC Dhamaka though. Joy Rising Hobby from Chennai can get you some good lipos as well.
