Title: New Car - FG Sportsline 1:5 - Mini Cooper
Post by: ajit4647 on June 16, 2011, 08:57:17 PM
Hey guys. Finally got my Mini Cooper delivered today. :)

Got it from Mr.Murali of Joy Rising Hobby.

and its HUGE compared to the Maxx and the Summit.

First impressions are the kit is pretty sturdy. and started up with no problems with guidance from Mr.Murali.

The rx battery(1500MaH NiCd) which came with the car died down pretty fast. so i hooked up a ACE RC Veloci RS ESC to a 3600 NiMH Batt and used it to power the servos.

Its still in the run-in phase, so no videos as of now. Played around for about 30 mins and still have half a tank of fuel left. had to cut the run short
as i managed to run the car into my leg at about half throttle. both my legs off the ground almost a foot in the air, fell on my back and scraped my elbow  :banghead:

so rest of the run in tomorrow and a few vids if possible. a few pics for now.

I fell in love with it the day i had it right in front of me.. Superior design, ventilated Disc brakes and lots of other gadgets.. Upgrade to lipo with 6v regulator Ajit.. You will love it even more. I just got one done for my FG 4wd Baja customer, he charges the battery once for every 6 tanks :)

So how is ur experience with the fg in total, hav u driven it much how often do u drive it n what is ur feeling about the build quality in comparison to an hpi quality.

hey. thx shashank.

well i completed my fourth tank of fuel today.

as far as build quality goes its Solid. Everything feels pretty solid. it survived a few collisions too. nothing happened to it luckily.

as far as comparison with HPI, i cant tell u much coz i dont have a lot of experience with HPI 1:5's. i helped assemble 2 5B's. but never ran them properly. the owner is too busy. still need to assemble the third. but this weekend we will be meeting up to run them together on the road. will let u know how it turns out.

as far as the part quality comparison - most of the parts i would say are on an equal footing with the FG edging out the HPI in a few places.

But as this is my first 5th scale, so it might be entirely possible that i may be wrong on the comparo part of it.

but will be able to give a better pic after this weekend.  :)

Thx Ajo sir.

well three places to drive it.

1. The RTO is constructing a new track for 2 wheeler and four wheeler license tests. and its not fully done. but the road part of it is done. Lots of Figure 8's and all ;D
2. We own a factory with a nice smooth road running all around it.
3. On the beach road. its a nice 10km strectch of winding smooth road. I generally make my friend drive my car while i control the RC.  ;D ;D

actually if u see my E-Maxx vids u can see me drive it on both the RTO track and the Beach road.

should see the look on auto drivers and bikers faces when they get overtaken by an RC car. its hilarious.  :P

The beginning of this vid has the RTO track.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObAqv5bbJg0

The end of this vid has the beach road.

will try to get a vid of the mini on the beach road this weekend.

Nice :) You changed the front rims on the maxx?

Title: Re: New Car - FG Sportsline 1:5 - Mini Cooper
Post by: ajit4647 on June 22, 2011, 01:14:40 PM
actually changed out the rears. the fronts are stock. had one rear tire rip on me and the stock rims were not in stock  :P

so went in for Revo 3.3 wheels which are basically summit rims with maxx tires.

and i feel the increased width has helped a bit in stability. maybe its just my imagination, but there is definitely some change.

I think you should use the air filter cover. Will check for availability.

nice air filter. are you sure that he size of the filter is correct? because if its not, youll lose lot of low end torque...

well. the filter is physically the same size as the stock filter. atleast while running it i have not been able to find any decrease in low end.

so lets see how it works in the long run.

well generally, when one changes the stock filter which is a balance between free flow and resistance, the manifold pipe get either longer, or the filter size reduces. this is to get the advantage of high airflow at high rpm with quick response at low end...

but iam no expert.

Is one designed for the zenoah type engines? Do they give enough airflow? I wa using a outwearer cover on the filter. That kept it clean and no difference in airflow.

havent been able to use it much.

the place i need to run it is kind of far away from my house. almost like 25 kms. and its been pretty hot out recently.

ran it for 9 tanks till now.
